The Hornby Elite Digital Controller is the unit for those who wish to take their train control to a new and advanced level. The Elite is more than capable of answering the needs of most railway layouts. Twin control with press switch functions, 17 button keyboard, wide function LCD screen display and a 4 amp transformer plus the capabilities of registering 254 locomotive addresses as well as 255 accessory addresses, and that includes point control. Also there is a USB portal for linking to a computer and the internet! The Hornby Elite is quite literally designed for the model layout that demands more control. I have just received the elite controller from Amazon upgrading from the select. What a difference!
This has got to be the Rolls Royce of controllers. Programing is very easy following the simple instructions given in the hand book. I re programed all 20 of my digital loco's including the sound on some of them in a very short time and what a difference. I would recamend any one to get one of these if you have a digital model railway.

I bought this to "upgrade" from a Select controller.
This device - like its little brother the Select suffers the problem of putting too many features behind too few buttons and too small a display. You don't for example even get a permanent display of which two locos you're controlling.
There's inevitable menus to scroll up and down and not very intuitive way - certainly I didn't think so in my short acquaintance with it (silly stuff like naming locos for example you have to scroll through a bunch of punctuation and the numbers before you get the letters. Scroll the wrong way and you get even more bizarre characters).
I'm not sure I like the "clicky" rotary controls, they really don't feel nice - there's no end stop or line and whilst there's a low-contrast display of throttle (or regulator!) you only get this for the selected side not both.
It threw a couple of randomly numbered errors whilst I was using it - though this may have been related to a dodgy power connector on the back which doesn't work at certain angles - so I'm returning it hoping to not see one again.
If it's independent control of two locos you're after and you've a Select already then maybe adding a Select Walkabout is the better idea and a third of the price.
