  • Product Description

The most famous locomotive and train in the World features in this high range Hornby train set. The striking LNER apple green liveried Class A1 Flying Scotsman helps to recreate those wonderful days of train travel in the 1930s when the two great rivals, London North Eastern Railway and the London, Midland and Scottish Railway vied for the lucrative passenger traffic between London and Scotland. All the RailRoad models are fitted with the standard Hornby hook and bar type couplings and will therefore easily couple to those locomotives and rolling stock in both the standard Hornby and Thomas & Friends ranges. With this in mind it is easy to see that those models that make up the Hornby RailRoad range are a simple and cost effective way of adding to a train set providing a suitable and most appropriate stepping stone into the varied and fascinating World of model railways. This grand, classic locomotive comes in iconic LNER green livery. Although this locomotive is one of the more basic in the Hornby range, it is built with all the quality and design features you would expect from a classic Hornby train.

The Railroad series are the budget end of the Hornby Range with less detail than the more expensive versions. The green colour is not quite the Apple Green normally associated with LNER trains, or the Flying Scotsman. The LNER transfers on the tender are also not quite right, however this particular train was bought for my seven year old son. For him this is not an issue, and at that age more detail just means more to break.

That said, the detail is still very good, and the mechanics are very smooth. This version was converted to DCC which was easy to do with a step by step guide on the Hornby website.

There was also enough room inside the model to fit a Seuthe smoke generator in the smoke stack which works very well off the same DCC circuit as the motor.

All in all, money well spent to make one happy little boy.

Interesting to say that when I bought this, I thought I would have to use the Hornby website to install the DCC module, since the Amazon listing states it is NOT DCC Ready. so it was a nice / added bonus to find the box on the engine I was sent had 'DCC Ready' printed on the box, needless to say, it was indeed DCC ready, and adding the module was simplicity itself. Can not guarantee all of the Flying Scotsman R2675s from Amazon will be DCC ready, I suppose it depends on age of the stock/availability and supplier. It would be good if Amazon updated/checked their stock regularly so that the specifications and listings are current, but I can't fault them totally as that would be a full time job.

Installed the DCC module easily and its all working fine. Quality of the engine and tender is excellent. Highly recommended and a valuable addition to any train set.

    Highly recommended :)

My son's favourite train from Hornby.

If purchasing for a child please bear in mind that it is harder to put on the track than a train with no tender as you need to be able to line up all the wheels.
