Book Description

Jim Laughter is a master storyteller. His first book, Escape to Destiny, is one of those rare books that made me take pause and actually think about the message. It captured my attention and held it until the last page. The Horicon Experience, the second episode of the Galactic Axia series, will carry you to new places throughout the galaxy, and thrill you with mystery and danger. I can hardly wait for Space Trader, the third book in this exciting adventure series. Job well done, Jim!
—Gloria Teague, author, Saturday Night Cocoa Fudge and Beyond the Surgeon's Touch

Jim has done it again! The Horicon Experience sets off across the galaxy and never stops, introducing a whole host of new characters that inspire, intrigue, and sometimes mystify the imagination. As Jake Sender says in the book, “Hold on to your hat!”
—Bob Avey, author, Twisted Perception and Beneath a Buried House

More About the Author

Jim Laughter (1953) is an American writer living in Oklahoma, United States. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant who spent thirteen years of his career at overseas duty stations. He says the happiest years of his 20-year career were the seven years he and his family were stationed in East Anglia, England. He learned to love the British people and to appreciate their rich history. Hardly a weekend went buy during those seven years that Jim and his family didn't visit a museum, castle, or some other historical landmark. Jim has been married to his high school sweetheart, Wilma Boling, since 1971. They've traveled the world together and have raised three wonderful sons. Their four grandchildren keep them young.

Jim's genre includes young adult fiction, true crime, murder thriller, and children's books. He is co-author of the Galactic Axia young adult fiction series whose book Escape to Destiny asked the question, "Can an orphan boy from an obscure planet make a galactic difference?" His murder thriller, The Apostle Murders, is a fast-moving thriller about a modern-day serial killer that believes God has called him to recreate the martyrdom of the original apostles of Jesus Christ. His novel, From Victim to Hero -- The Untold Story of Steven Stayner, is the true story of a kidnapped 7-year old boy that was held captive for seven years before escaping and rescuing another abducted child.

Watch for Jim's new book, Polar City Red, set to release in paperback, Kindle, and Nook in the summer of 2012. Polar City Red is an amazing human story set in the great northern tundra in the year 2075 after the Earth's ecosystem suffers cataclysmic failure due to the effects of global warming. Can humanity survive his own worse enemy? Himself....

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Better Than The First Axia Book-Simply Outstanding!!! 2 Dec. 2012

The "Axia" book series is a series of books aimed primarily at young adults though quite enjoyable by anyone. They belong to a specific and rare genre that might be best called "Christian Space Opera". A subgenre that is vastly underserved with only a handful of novels to my knowledge.

The Horicon Experience continues in the world of the Axia. Kind of an interstellar alliance that carefully monitors large numbers of more primitive planets (including Earth) until they are ready to join the other human populations that already make up the Axia.

"Escape To Destiny" largely introduced us to the main character Delmar and his struggles in a deeply trouble "home", his rescue from that situation and his joining the military arm of the Axia with his adventures in basic training. Horicon continues his adventures through computer training school but also very deftly juggles two other key storylines one of which crosses pasts with Delmar regarding an ancient supercomputer from the dead world of Horicon and another more ominous storyline about the Axia forces monitoring a primitive (but heavily armed) planet.

Despite the books rather short length, all three stories are well paced and well handled.

Though the book is "Christian science fiction" the author makes no effort to hit the read over the head with these features. The characters are all basically good, believable people. Their religion is simply part of their lives. From saying a blessing before a meal to exclaiming a reference to the "unseen one" (God obviously) to attending a Temple service.

All in all an outstanding novel and well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd in the series, still a nice read. 14 May 2014

Again, mainly seems oriented towards a younger audience. You should read the series in the proper order because each book basically starts where the previous one ends. And I have read all 4. The book, like all of them, retains a strong, generic, moral overtone. I like that.
