Having absentmindedly flipped the cover to peer inside this book (lying on my boss's desk due to be taken home to her daughter) I resurfaced at least 30 guilty minutes later when the phone rang. I was hooked! Its true the start is brilliant. My boss had to promise I could borrow it later.

In the wake of Harry Potter's dual children/adult appeal this too has that effect. And it didn't dissapoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. An exceptionally entertaining victorian fantasy science romp - An air of Sherlock Holms come Sleepy Hollow. Great main charachter.

Due to the cover I can't quite get him to have red hair though...

After what felt like a long wait from her last book, TimeKeepers, Catherine Webb's new book's out! And it doesn't disappoint!

In Victorian London, Horatio Lyle has been pulled away from his test-tubes to find something in the name of Queen Victoria: the Fuyun Plate. But what's strange about it is that it was stolen from the Bank of England! How? So with "reformed" pickpocket Tess, a "bigwig" Thomas and his dog Tate, Horatio is on the case. But soon finds it getting strange - dead bodies, hypnotism, Green Eyes and a man who enjoys ginger biscuits. But how are all these connected to the Fuyun Plate? And will Horatio live to solve this whole case...?

I think Catherine Webb is the best author in the world! Her books are spooky, gripping and hilariously funny. Horatio Lyle is probably my favourite character and I really can't wait for the third book in the series to come out!
