This book chronicles the history of the Hoppings from its origins in 1882 as a Temperance Festival through to the 2009 mega-fairground. Containing hundreds of photos covering the Victorian steam machines and modern Millennium thrill rides, this book features faces from the people who make the fairground what it is, plus an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the fair is set up.
Known over the years as the North of England Temperance Festival, the Town Moor Fair, or even the Race Week Festival, the Hoppings takes its name from an old word meaning `to dance', however it was not until the 1950s that it became the universally recognised title of this Tyneside institution. The Festival has developed into a modern travelling fairground and today boasts more than 60 large modern thrill rides.
