Book Description

1 Aug 2002
When the world is still quite young, there was a sleepy, slurpy swamp. And in it swam a very odd-looking creature...As he makes his way in the world, this very odd-looking creature, with a long sticky tongue, who can hunt like a chameleon and sing like a parrot, isn't quite sure who or what he is. Nor is anyone else. But he does know that he wants to find a friend who is just like himself. An enchanting tale from the winner of the Children's Book Award.

I bought this as a gift for a 5 year old at Christmas and he really enjoys it, we like to try and say the long words as quickly as possible. Sweet and fun book for littluns... and so cheap!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids will love it 4 Sep 2005
By RED - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I've done this story with different age groups, from 4 yr olds to 8 yr olds, and all loved it. The increasingly silly name of the main character helps children to identify parallels in nature. They'll have lots of fun repeating the name as well: babylizzyparroturtlehoppameleon.

Though highly stylized throughout, the beginning and end are the weakest points, as children tune out anything that isn't as engaging as the fun of the story in the middle. Still, it is a riot to read and has educational merit. I highly recommend it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Engaging for Toddlers 7 Jan 2014

It is a very cute book for little children. I first found it at the library. My 18 mo old grandson fell in love with it a d wanted to look at it ALL the time. He loved finding/accurately identifying all the critters on each page. It was a "no-brainer" to make it a permanent book I'm his library.

My son and I love this book. It's great for learning to pronounce new syllables. We love it because it is very silly and fun!
