5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute hoot 3 April 2012

This novella is a delightful way to while away a couple of hours. I am a careworker, working with elderly people, and I've met enough evil old bats to know that, given a bit more mobility and a length of yarn there coud be a lot of Hildas out there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wanted - Hilda Hopkins 2 Mar 2012
By M. Dowden HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This crime novella is much better than what I was expecting, and will definitely make you wonder what your gran gets up to. We start off with Hilda Hopkins, OAP and knitting machine addict, escaping from the police. As we read on we find out what Hilda has done, whilst evading police capture.

Trying to make a small income Hilda took in a lodger, but when he died she decided to rather than report it, clear out his bank account and carry on collecting his pension. Finding it an easy way to make money, Hilda then starts bumping off further lodgers, or 'paying guests' as she likes to call them, creating woolen dolls of them that she has around the house.

Hilda may be old, but she still has her marbles, and is quite spry, so will the police be able to capture her? This is quite a fun but dark little read that made me glad my gran is already dead, or I could have seen her in the role of Hilda.

OK, so this book isn't your typical murder yarn - but I have to say that I did enjoy it.

Very easy to read and it made me chuckle once or twice. I liked the main character (despite being a murderer!) and was always fascinated to discover what she would do next.

I knew it was a short story but was surprised by the suddenness of the end - then I discovered it's the first in a series of short stories! And yes, I will probably read the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will this be a repeated pattern?
Whereas this book is well written and the characters are well drawn, I am at a loss to know how to catagorise it, since it is not a mystery or a whodunnit. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky
It is very unusual to be on the side of the murderer. Hilda Hopkins is a different type of killer and the way in which she disposes of her victims is hilarious. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder, She Knit
Really enjoyed this little book. It made me laugh that the writer understands the obsession of us knitters. Light hearted and funny, I couldn't put it down. A real treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unusual serial killer
A must for all machine knitters. Hilda has no conscience even though she shows great ingenuity. I had read about this and found it came up to all expectations and beyond

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable
This was short, but it was a complete story with a beginning, a middle and an end. It was almost believable, if a bit silly. Ideal for holidays, etc as little concentration needed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't give me the needle
If you were casting around for a quick lightweight fun read, then the pattern of this book might be for you.

As they might say it Australia, a bit of a purler. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Interestingly different
Original aspect to character. Quick read building up to quite an abrupt end. Liked the resourcefulness of the character plus how a hobby can be involved within the story line.
