I was counting the days for this product to arrive. I planned to put this on everything.

I love the taste it’s very moreish .

However on Chips/Fries it clumps up and does not spread evenly.

I still need to experiment on how to stop this from happening it is so annoying but if I would choose between clumps and taste I would choose taste.

Not too strong cheese powder in a handy dispenser... but it comes from the USA so I had to wait longer than expected, this was not made clear in the advertisement at the time.

Makes lovely mac and cheese! I mix it with stilton cheese powder (bought on Amazon) which is a bit stronger.

Secret Ingredient 29 Sep 2013

I love to cook almost as much as I love to eat. This item is one of my secret ingredients I usually don't tell others about.

Basically, you are getting a one pound container of powdered cheddar cheese. What sets this item apart from other powdered cheese is the degree of cheesiness.

♦Compared to Kroger brand: Kroger sells powdered cheddar cheese in a sprinkle bottle but it is nowhere near as good. When you compare the two cheese powders, Hoosier Farm's is rich orange, Kroger's is pale orange to yellow. When you open the lids and smell, the difference is pretty clear. The taste of Hoosier Farms is by far much, much cheesier/richer/more intense.

♦Clumping: If you add it to moist products, it will clump. So, either use a shaker jar with large holes or spoon as if sifting. This product does not go through a sifter or small holes well. It does declump well using a wire/silicone whisk.

♦How much to use: Well, that is up to you. I have never felt that I added so much of this to a dish that I ruined the dish, but it has a saturation point. After adding so much, the intensity kinda levels out. So, add to suit your taste.

♦Adjusting recipes: If you have a recipe you want to 'cheese up,' you may have to add more milk or water to the dish. Not a lot, but I often find if I don't add a little extra, the dish comes out a bit dry.

♦Staining: Be careful using this product while in powder form. It stains orange. So far, it has not stained anything to the point the stain was not able to be removed. That said, if you are not careful, orange color will be everywhere. Fingers, lips, clothes, counters, etc. Also, your food will take on an orange appearance.

♦Saltiness: I have tried a few powdered cheese products that were more like cheese salt. They were so salty I could not eat/use them. This brand is not salty.

A favorite cooking ingredient. You will find yourself adding it to a lot of dishes.

Awesome 30 July 2012

First I was stunned how quickly I received this item. I ordered two of these. They did not come in a plastic sack as in the picture. They came in a plastic jar with a cellophane type seal over that! Under the lid is another seal. I was impressed by that. Then I noticed the lid is a shaker top on one side and a spoon size opening on the other side. Another plus.
Of course I also tasted it. Fresh tasting, no hint of being old or faint. I know where I will be getting my cheddar powder in the future. And on top of all of that, I know this cheese is made in America and comes from America, Indiana in fact. Supremely pleased with these. So much so, that I went to their website, came back here and doing a search of all their items.

Absolutely great on popcorn!!! 23 Sep 2012

This cheddar cheese powder gives me the orange fingers I was looking for! It's very tasty! It has a sharper flavor and tastes like real cheese, not a processed cheese product. I'm popping the kernels in coconut oil and immediately shaking on the cheese while hot. This combo makes an absolutely great cheese popcorn! Not hinting of cheese, but bursting with cheese. Do not add salt, as it will counter the flavor of the cheese. Tastes way better than anything from the potato chip aisle. You know how addictive a really good cheese popcorn is. With this cheese powder, you can make your own gourmet quality popcorn at a fraction of the price!

Other reviews comment on price fluctuation and receiving shakers as opposed to a bag. I purchased for $9.99, fullfilled by Amazon. I was hoping to receive shakers, but received a bag. You will need a shaker with very large holes. (Think holes like on a chopped onion container. Smaller holes won't cut it.) In the bagged 1-lb category, there is a $10 price spread, so shop carefully and pay attention to delivery complaints. The shipping others charge on a 1-lb package really jacks up the per pound price, so the $9.99 I paid, with free shipping, was the cheapest option w/o having to buy in bulk. So avoid shipping charges and possible delivery delays and stick with good price and fast delivery. And this is a food product. Consider who will give you easy replacement or instant refund if you happen to get a stale bag.

Tips for getting the cheese to stick to your popcorn.
1) Sprinkle on when hot. Put popcorn in the microwave if you need to. (Keep shaker as far away from popcorn as possible. The steam from the popcorn will make the cheese cake up around the holes.) Immediately stir/mix to coat evenly.
2) Spray Pam on the popcorn first. I couldn't find popcorn spritzer. Several reviewers offer this recommendation. I tried it. It works.
3) Sprinkle on buttered popcorn. Obviously this will work, but you will also get delicious gooey fingers. I'll eventually try this when I buy some buttery topping, but I'm already popping in coconut oil and trying to avoid the additional calories/fat of butter. (Not like coconut oil is low cal. And besides, it's truly good w/o butter if popped in coconut oil or maybe some other flavorful oil.)

Hands down, a 5-star product. I have no plans to try any other brand and I'll be buying often.

Update 2/1/13: Still crazy about this cheese. Price running around the $12 mark and worth the increased price. The product page has been updated, showing the product in a jar. Great, right? Not really. It's a wide mouth jar without shaker holes. A regular lid, not a dispensing lid. Definintely a step up over the bag, but falls short. Also, the bag had instructions for making cheese sauce, which is not on the jar. (Knowing the ratio of water to cheese powder isn't common knowledge.) Product taste is easily 5 stars, but I'm docking a star for packaging. I expect better at this price point. Add shaker holes to the lid and bring back the mixing instructions!

Excellent substitute 25 Jan 2013

My husband is "addicted" to the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Topping. He adds it to almost everything he can, including adding additional powder to boxes of Mac and Cheese. Our problem has been that the little 3 oz jars of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Topping are getting almost impossible to find and when we can find them they are WAY too expensive for the way we use them in this household.
During one of many searches for a compatible product I found this item, the Hoosier Hill Farm Cheddar Cheese Powder. We decided to give it a try. It is the first, and currently only, substitute my husband will accept. Every other cheese powder we have tried doesn't come close. My husband, who can taste the smallest differences in pretty much anything, says that while this is a little less salty than the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Topping it is close enough to be considered a match.
So, if you are like my husband and need your Kraft Cheese Topping fix order this. You won't regret it!
