Product Description

Review

This beautifully illustrated book is nicely written and incorporates the five key senses that children use on a daily basis into the story. It is simple, enjoyable and provides a talking point for seasons and senses. We thoroughly enjoyed it. (lovedbyparents.com)

This bold, colourful and appealing introduction to the senses includes an activity spread to help children learn about the way they can use their five senses to interact with the world around them, whilst the stunning artwork has a delightful retro charm. Format: Board book
This is a very sweet little board book; the illustrations are lively, colourful and contemporary, and the premise of the book is simple and age appropriate. If you have a young child (or just appreciate beautiful illustration), then I suggest buying this little book (along with lots and lots of others!), to kick start their reading and appreciation of books.

This is a lovely story of a bunny rabbit who wonders if spring has sprung and after a few failed attempts finally uses his 5 senses to discover spring has indeed arrived.

The style of the writing is perfect for toddlers and early readers as it is simple sentence construction with plenty of repetition of both words and concepts 'smells like/ tastes like' etc and opens up for discussion of the child's senses which is supported by a recall activity on the back page. This is great grounding for early literacy skills.
It is great for learning and talking about the senses and also about the seasons- especially paired with 'Tip Tap went the crab' for Summer and 'it was a cold dark night' for late autumn/ early winter bog by the same author.
The style of illustration is gloriously simplistic yet abstract, lots of block colour with a rough/blurred aspects around the page which appears childlike yet complex at the same time, I think it's beautiful but a classicist may dislike it as not realistic enough.

We love Tim Hopgood in our house, my 21 month old daughter has been a fan since she received this book shortly after her 1st birthday and has loved Hoppy the most of her collection ever since.
