CD Description
First three CBS albums released in the early 1970s from country rockers Dr Hook. The single 'Sylvia's Mother' was a US Top 10 hit from the first album, followed by 'The Cover Of Rolling Stone' from 'Sloppy Seconds'. The band signed to Capitol in 1975 and went on to achieve big worldwide hits such as 'A Little Bit More' and 'When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman' before splitting in 1985. Digitally remastered and slipcased and with extensive new notes.

The first three albums from the band, all in one package, and at a very good price. I never got round to buying the first album, for reasons of stupidity, I think. I took a long time to realise that the over-the-topness of "Sylvia's Mother" was carefully calculated/ measured, and let that put me off. Ignorance stopped me buying the "Belly Up" album - I didn't know that it existed. "Sloppy Seconds" I bought when it first came out, and I loved it. Still do. Being able to buy this three-in-one package has been a real plus, never mind that I had a vinyl copy of "Sloppy Seconds".
The vast majority of the material was written by the multi-talented Shel Silverstein, with much of it being, in turn, outrageous, hysterically funny and moving (This was all before the band concentrated on what for me were very mushy love songs...). It really is great stuff - but not necessarily for the faint-hearted or easily offended. The musicianship is first-rate, the band is tight, harmonies are always spot on, the songs are invariably entertaining and intelligent. Highly recommended.

As far as I can make out, having missed Dr Hook completely the first time round, these are 2 CDs containing the first three Dr Hook albums. If you have a sense of humour regarding wine,women and substances then you will laugh out loud. If you have a sense of passion, a sense of trying your best but that never being quite enough,then you will find a voice (Dennis Locorriere) which sweeps you up and carries you forwards.I love all these tracks which have lost nothing in the process of digital re-mastering!! Definitely good value for money.

Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show are a much underrated group. Great live entertainers whoseemed to enjoy everything. Basically a country type group they don't take themselves too seriously playing popular ballards like Sylvia's mother and wonderful soup stone to pure fun like Roland the Roadie and Gertrude the Groupie and Penicillin Penny mainly from the pen of the inimitable Shel Silverstein. These 3 Albums in on set make a great buy for those who want to some fun with their music.
