Entertaining 18 July 2012

Very Entertaining almanac ! This is a fun read from everything to astrology time tables to conventional hoodoo and conjure recipes and moon phases, plus home recipes for cooking/floorwashes, tarot scopes/palmistry, herbal uses, weather lore, tid bits of history and saints etc. The only problem is that there is no index to locate any particular item....you have to read the whole book which is delightful. ( and post mark each page of interest for future reference. ) Its a buffet of information all in one book. I hope there is a sequel to this one for the year 2013. Reminds me of a cross between the famous farmers almanac and a magic book all in one. 352 pages and soft cover very nicely done. I rate this 5 stars as its an easy read and very entertaining.

Indispensable Resource 16 July 2012
By A. Stacy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
It is one of those gifts that keep on giving and will own its place of honour on my magickal bookshelf for the years to come. Previously I would purchase the Witches Almanac , a beautiful book that comes out twice a year for the few pages it would dedicate to my particular spiritual path. I have longed for a similar type tome that would be dedicated to my area of study and the related paths that infuse the Indigenous American, African American and European American folk magic traditions that filtered through the southern states.

Upon receiving my copy I devoured it from cover to cover and am starting again. Glossary's, Calenders of Feast Days, Household Tips. Health Tips, sections on popular Saints,Spirit Guides as well as helpful omens and tables of moon signs. Voodoo Charms, herbal charms and chock full of lore , I can't even begin to scratch the surface of its dense 351 pages. To further extend your experience there are pictures and QR codes that you can snap with your android phone to take you websites that will further your reading ,including whole books for free!

This is a great source book for people wanting to connect with their roots via the folks magic of their Ancestors. A beautifully written and presented book (I love the aesthetic old time look the Authour's employed) for the Solitary Root Worker, Novice or Initiated or just plain curious. I really appreciate the something for everyone approach and the bringing together of many cultures that Authours' Alvarado,Dean and Pustanio have accomplished.

The best birthday present I bought for myself!

This book runs the gamut from finding your lucky day thru hoodoo history to practical conjure tips for improving one's life situations. Astrology, herbology, angelology, Voodoo, Saints, recipes, cures, all practical and within the reach of anyone.
Denise Alvarado and co. truly did their homework and their hard work shows in this traditionally inspired almanac of folk remedy for modern times.

Perfect! 4 Jan. 2013
By Hootiepaul - Published on Amazon.com

Ordinarily I write very few reviews on Amazon, but this almanac inspired me to. When I originally purchased this I was expecting it to be similar to a Farmers' Almanac in size but upon receiving it today in the mail it was even more detailed and comprehensive than I could have imagined. The pages within are full of practical information and new material (not repeating any information found within the first two issues of "Hoodoo & Conjure Quarterly" but instead expanding upon them), and despite the fact that this was published in 2012 one can still find much use for it for 2013. I truly do appreciate all of the information contained within this almanac, and I am certain that this will be useful for me for many years to come.

!! A Must Have !! 6 Jun. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I found nothing in this book that did not catch my attention and keep it. The information inside is a must have for any rootworker or conjurer . This book is full of fantastic lore and history. I have to say my tarot-scope was right on. With writings ranging from serving Marie Laveau to La Santisma Muerte along with significant dates for those who practice hoodoo , there are very few books on the shelves that will cover the range of topics available in this volume. Simply a great book by very talented authors.
