Product Description

When starfighter pilot Simon Dodds is enrolled in a top secret military project, he and his wingmates begin to suspect that there is a lot more to the theft of a legendary battleship and an Imperial nation's civil war than either the Confederation Stellar Navy or the government are willing to let on.

Within weeks of being reassigned to the Confederate border system of Temper, the five would begin to untangle a web of lies and a cover-up that seemed to span the length of the entire galaxy. And it would not be long before they themselves would come face to face with that which destroyed an empire: an unforgiving, unstoppable, and totally unrelenting foe.

There seemed to exist only one glimmer of hope of driving back the darkness: The ATAF Project - a secretly developed set of starfighters that may well just harbour some terrible secrets of their own.

Reviews:

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad SF debut 7 Sep 2009
By N. Brett TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Advertised as having an appeal to those who enjoyed "Babylon 5, Star Wars and Battlestar Gallactica (tos)" this is a space actioner with a fair bit of characterisation thrown in.
The focus is on a small team of pilots who are trained up on a secret star-fighter, only to not quite make the grade for further testing, only to find circumstance will put them back in the cockpits once more.....
The environment is somewhat confusing with two space Empires at odds with each-other (one of whom is going through a civil war) and it took me a while to work out the background as to who was who.
Then we have secrets and conspiracies as we realise there is more to the secret star fighters and the bad guys then we suspected......
Not bad and one has to admire a self published novel. This works better at the sharp end with fully rounded characters who do have personalities and flaws but is weaker in conveying the bigger picture. It's a nice book, with an eye-catching cover but probably a little bit expensive for what you are getting. So overall this is okay, not spectacular page turning stuff but solid, reasonably well written and dependable SF reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the read... 4 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am all for self published novels and am willing to download the sample before I decide to purchase, so I have little time for those that bitch in their reviews about grammatical errors and typos. I am no English Teacher and only read books to relax so I am willing to give authors a good bit of slack on this issue as long as the book has a good story. This book has a great story that had me hooked from the start. Its not perfect and in some places a bit predicable yet once it gets pass introducing the main character with his background history, it then follows the adventures of his team of space pilots. Finishing the book leaves you with loads of questions and while I can't wait for the next in the series I do hope it has the answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read 9 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
This if a fun, light read. Characters well put together and not stereotyped, with a well-paced story.
One reviewer likened the 'world' with Babylon 5 and I would agree in one area; there are some strong similarities around stargates and spacecraft.
A few loose ends hastily tidied up at the end, however leaving the way open for the next in the series - one that I would like to read.
For Kindle readers - no typos and text to speech enabled. At this price, it is well worth reading and adding to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
I found this book very good, although several spelling and grammatical errors, and easy to read. Sometimes quite predictable but still a good read.
