Born in Holland, he grew up in the USA, England and Indonesia, got a first class degree from Oxford before working in London, Milan, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf.

He lives in a rambling old house in a small town in Germany with his wife, daughter and dog.

"Honour" is his first book.

"A beautiful, daring, exciting book.. a true joy." Mohammed Quayyum

"Ambitious, compelling, gripping, horrifying." Gillian Carey

"Freddie Omm is that rare beast: a thriller writer with a full arsenal of literary skills... Stylish, sharp and masterful, Honor is a real thrill to read... a pleasure on every page." James Wood

A shocking thriller, darkly funny, "Honour" is about men who kill for honour, and the girls who "drive them to it"...

"Honour" was first written 2007-2008.

Its controversial nature made the established agents and publishers fearful of publishing it.

A more open-minded interest in Islamic culture, combined with rising outrage against so-called "honour" killings, have changed that.

"Honour" was published in March 2012 by Mad Bear Books and soon became an Amazon best-seller in the UK and Germany, receiving critical praise from a range of respected critics in both the UK and the USA.

Freddie Omm also writes short stories, articles, poetry, children's stories, a couple of blogs, translations, ad copy and music.

He has had short stories and poetry published in the collection Words to Music (2011), as well as the Jericho Bugle and the Manchester Review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful thriller about love, jihad and honor 8 July 2013
By James Wood - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Stylish, sharp, compelling, shocking, intelligent and exhilirating, "Honor" is a page-turner about a young man with a dangerous jihadi past... but then he falls in love with a westernized woman, Shirin. It drives him into a lethal confrontation with his friends, his beliefs, his ideals..

The cast includes jihadi sheikhs and agitators, advertising men and marketers on the edges of mayhem, turning a blind eye to terror in the interests of consumerism, a young girl in an honor attack, a wide-eyed young lad being groomed for a suicide bombing, a fiery, racy feminist. Omm's skill at making them all come to vibrant life is masterful. The way you end up almost sympathizing with the key jihadist, Abdul Khattak, is a satirical master-stroke, as well as a deeply sympathetic portrayal.

Set in England, France and Turkey, "Honor" is atmospheric, disturbing, always riveting. The book's fluid point of view is powered through interwoven narrative threads, whose intricacy mimics the interweaving motivations of the characters in their ironic, multi-perspectived counterpoint. The romantic love story between Azeem and Shirin plays out in a context of murderous rivalry and twisted idealism. Azeem has seen the jihadi killing fields and knows the jihadi techniques, but he turns his back on that life for the love of a woman.

Omm is that rare beast - a thriller writer with a full arsenal of literary skills. Some readers may be taken aback by the mix of comedy and tragedy. But this aspect helps make "Honor" such a thrill to read, there is pleasure on every page. It would make a great independent film by a director like Tarantino or the Coen brothers.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves well-written, pacy, intelligent thrillers. This one does a great job stimulating the mind, as well as giving shots of adrenalin.
