Assuming you're not simply crossing from the Chinese mainland, the region's main entry point is Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest in the world; Macau's smaller airport handles flights from a few cities in China and a limited number of Southeast Asian countries. Read the first page

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 17 Sep 2007

I always opt for a rough guide when travelling but this one failed to hit the mark. The way it was sectioned was confusing - with a seperate "listings" section at the back for places to eat, shop etc rather than it being included under each geographical district. I gave up using it very quickly and relied on the much smaller but easier to manage "Lonely planet Hong Kong Encounter" with pull out map instead. I also bought the Rough Guide DIRECTIONS: Hong Kong & Macau and would recommend it more than this book as the sections are less confusing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, useful, insightful, indispensable as always, 26 Feb 2009

I have used Rough Guides for many years, preferring the general layout, writing style, maps, listings and so on to their main rivals. I guess it comes down to preference and choice - some are Lonely Planet fans, some go for Rough Guides! I disagree with the other reviewer - I found the HK guide to be as excellent as RG's always are. I especially value the 'Contexts' chapter which provides an insightful history of the country. Before traveling there, I knew little about Hong Kong's history either before or during British colonial rule, so finding about the political and economic backdrop to the place was facinating. The listings for bars, restaurants etc are always trustworthy and this held true for the Hong Kong guide. Advice and information on all matter of practicalities of use to the traveller are clear and helpful. In short, the Guide was an invaluable resource in helping me make the most of my trip to Hong Kong.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rought Guide to Hong Kong and Macau....don't buy, 23 Nov 2007

Found the Rough Guide really difficult to follow and it seemed badly laid out.
Used an AA guide instead, which was fantastic and I would highly recommend that.
