Probably not fair that the previous reviewer marked this down for not having a remote when it was not described as having one anyway but provided you are not bothered by that and the lack of other fancy features some other more complicated fans have and just want something simple to keep you cool in the hot summer months then this does the job perfectly. This is an affordable, solidly built and very effective fan with only 3 speed settings to worry about and even on the lowest setting it still throws out alot of air and you may not even feel the need to turn it up any higher. It's also fairly quiet in comparison to many other fans as well which is always a bonus plus it looks good too!

My daughter wanted an upright fan in her bedroom. I read up a few product review sites and this got the most positive feedback so I went to my local Argos and snapped up their last one. It comes with three speed settings but the rate at which it belts out the air just on no 1 means we rarely need to take it higher. It is also surprisingly quiet for such a large fan. It is pretty basic, sliding up and down by means of a twist-lock on the main shaft and it oscillates in quite a wide arc by means of the usual release mechanism on the motor housing. It has a good heavy base so it is also very stable. The only tip I can give you is that we ended up putting some self-adhesive foam on the underside of the base to minimise the dull sound of vibration that was transmitting down through my daughters wooden floors. If you are in two minds between this one or the identical looking chromed metal version, a friend has the chromed one and it is much noisier, we think it has a lot to do with the blades not being so soft and flexible as they cut through the air. I just think you would be hard pushed to get a quieter and more effective fan for this price.

We've owned a few pedestal fans over the years. Some have lasted longer than others and the most recent, purchased from a very well known DIY store which recently went into administration, lasted 6 years, up until our 3-year old decided to pull the head and press the touchpad buttons until they worked no more. We looked around and this Honeywell HS-216E seemed to tick all the boxes: reasonably priced, well known/respected brand, stylish/good-looking, simple and effective. Ordered it Thursday and it was delivered Friday (Amazon Prime). Took 10 minutes to assemble, very easy. It has a stylish, yet heavy base, so it's not going to wobble or fall-over. It hasn't got a remote (we never really used the remote with the last fan), so has a simple rotary dial on the front, from 0 (off), 1, 2, 3 speed settings (3 being the fastest). On top it has a simple pull/push knob to start/stop oscillation. I agree with another reviewer, the power lead is a little short, but it's not a problem for me. I should also point out that it is the quietest pedestal fan we've ever owned, which is great for those hot humid nights in the bedroom. It's also the most stylish looking fan we've ever owned. Highly recommended all around.

Great value and easy to assemble
Give me nuts and bolts to assemble most anything and I am in trouble. However, this fan unit was simple to put together, is excellent value and performs very well indeed. Read more
