Product Description

The Adelphi Collection

Films by Maurice Elvey

A delicious double-dose of effervescent vintage comedy starring Britain's blondest bombshell, the one-and-only Diana Dors, at her saucy best.

Is Your Honeymoon Necessary sees US army airman Laurie Vining hankering after a little rest and recreation with his new bride, when his gorgeous ex, Candy (Diana Dors), arrives insisting they're still man and wife. Wisecracking co-pilot Hank Hanlon (Sid James) and girl-shy lawyer Frank Betterton (David Tomlinson) try to lend a hand but Laurie's troubles have only just begun...

My Wife's Lodger finds hapless soldier Willie Higginbottom (Dominic Roche) hoping for a hero's welcome when he returns home after the war. But, while he was away, shifty spiv Roger the Lodger (Leslie Dwyer) got his arms around his wife and his feet under the table, and now Willie's ditzy daughter (Diana Dors) only wants to sing, dance and jitterbug!

With striking new transfers taken from the original negatives preserved at the BFI National Archive, both films are made available here for the first time and come with a lavish fully illustrated 30-page booklet featuring essays and original promotional materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Dors... 23 Jun 2010
Maurice Elvey directed both the films on offer here. Both are comedy vehicles from stage plays and are representative of the era. Both feature the rising star of Diana Dors. The film quality is excellent as are the extensive liner notes/booklet. The double bill format and DVD along with Blue Ray makes the price reasonable too. Look out for more from the BFI...

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic 22 Jun 2010
Just seen Is your Honeymoon Necesary for the 1st time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Diana Dors certainly adds spark to the film. The Blu-ray presentation looks great and I hope more classics are restored in this fashion. The sound for the most part was good but sometimes had a slight echo to the voices, which I suspect was how it was recorded.

All in all a great presentation and you get a quality booklet that has some meat to it inside.

Highly reccomended.

Technically very good picture and sound on blue ray, must confess I was bored but found it o.k. for its time. Not one of the greats but if you enjoy 50's b movies its o.k. worth a watch if you got nothing better to do sorry Dianna

4.0 out of 5 stars Is your honeymoon necessary/My wife's lodger 23 April 2012

These two films are just good fun. Diana Dors is featured in both. The 'Honeymoon' she is a scheming minx out to make Bonar Colleano's life a misery, claiming that he is still married to her. She ends up getting David Tomlinson!!! In 'My wife's Lodger' I am afraid that her talents are thoroughly wasted (as was often the case with the wondrous DD) so that is why it is 4 star and not 5. But it IS Diana Dors so still worth a watch

Just wanted to add that these films will be released as a duel format so they will play on a standard DVD player too.
