Adapted from a play called "The Golden Fleecing" this movie will cheer you up if you are down in the dumps.
The story revolves around a couple of Sailors and a computer programmer who set out to take a Venice casino to the cleaners and what a farce it is!
All the action takes place in hotel rooms or the casino where the story unfolds. The programmer (Jim Hutton) feeds roulette wheel numbers into a ship's computer and they are transmitted back to shore by signal lamp to the Sailors' hotel, predicting where the roulette wheel's ball will land.
Romance comes into the mix with Lt. Fergie Howard (Steve McQueen) wooing the Admiral's daughter (Brigid Bazlen) and the incomparable pairing of Jim Hutton and Paula Prentiss to keep the laughs going.
Veteran actor, Dean Jagger was the high point of the movie for me, playing the crusty Admiral Fitch to perfection!
Worth a view if you want something light and fluffy to raise your spirits. But don't expect a classic.
