Format: Audio CD
Lydia recorded with a rump of the Birthday Party, in particular getting Rowland Howard to provide the guitar to this album. It has all the Birthday Party trademarks, guitar out to lunch, bass keeping the whole thing from being shambolic. The vocals laddled with sexual cynicism. Evidently the tensions between the collaborators ensured this album is steeped in bad blood.

The production is pure Cornish tin but the songs stand up as part of the Birthday Party oevre despite the denials of the people who were involved.

The Sinatra/Hazelwood compostion Some Velvet Morning is worth buying this CD alone. It is a magical re interpretation undertaken by Lydia and Rowland, one of the best pieces either has undertaken in all incarnations and the bar is high.

This is a blues noir album for the dark winter nights for all BP lovers and Nick Cave/Lydia Lunch archeologists.

An acquired taste 3 April 2000

Honeymoon in Red is one of the better albums of this genre. What genre? The genre that means you like albums by Lydia Lunch, the Birthday Party, Foetus, Sonic Youth and Swans, plus many others who were really interesting but far more obscure.

Birthday Party! 19 April 2014

This is more or less a Birthday Party reunion with Lydia. It's primarily Lydia and Rowland. Rowland (R.I.P.) is obviously the mastermind behind it. One can feel the tension behind it all, kind of like The Nymphs. Not the music, just the tension.

Brought Down By Rowland S. Howard's vocals 15 Mar 2009
By s.t. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I came to this recording mostly as a Birthday Party fan, although I do love Ms. Lunch's work with Teenage Jesus & the Jerks. The idea of a fusion of these two sounds seemed to me a pretty damn exciting prospect. Unfortunately, while historically interesting, Honeymoon in Red is only somewhat satisfying musically.

"Done Dun" and "Dead in the Head" are the only tracks with Nick Cave on vocals, and they're the only tracks that actually fulfill the potential of the BP/Lunch collaboration. The rest have great instrumentation, but are dragged down by Howard's nasal moping. Even if Lydia sang alone on the rest of the tracks, it would have been better than a slew of duets with someone with such a tepid, cartoonish whine as poor Rowland.

Great idea, but it's not surprising to learn that Nick and Mick didn't want credit for this album. Not long after, they ditched Howard and formed the Bad Seeds with Blixa Bargeld. Perhaps Honeymoon in Red served as their reason to cut him loose?

Get "Dead in the Head" and "Done Dun" and forget the rest!

a magical, whimsical song that has enriched my life 29 Aug 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Over thirty years ago, when i first heard this song, something about it caught my attention.....the name Phaedra. i started practicing different ways to spell it,Fadra - Phadra- Faydra----and finally came up with "Phaedra" I wrote it all the time and vowed taht it would be my daughter's name.
Years later, when I was pregnant, my husband said "Your'e not naming my daughter 'Phaedra'".
When I was seven months' pregnant, she decided it was time to come......no warning.....just lightening, thunder, SNOW!!!!! I went into labor, and couldn't even make it to the hospital that she was supposed to be born at!!!!
She was delivered on 12/1/74, 3 lb. 14 oz..They recommended that I name her right away, because she wasn't very strong. I looked at my husband and said, with tears in my eyes, "the only name I ever had for my daughter was 'Phaedra'".
So she was named phaedra, and I must have had my angel looking out for us, because MY angel, Phaedra, is fine, healthy, happy, and will be will be married in one month.
Thank you Nancy and Lee, for a beautiful inspiration.
P.S. We are using this song for the bride/father song ( a little hard to dance to, but it holds a lot of memories.)
