Honestly Healthy is a refreshing cookbook and lifestyle guide promoting balanced and healthy living. Using the revolutionary new alkaline diet, it’s packed with recipes, tips and tricks to help you transform your daily routine from hectic and hurried to harmonious and holistic.

Organic gourmet vegetarian cook, Natasha Corrett, and leading nutritional therapist Vicki Edgson combine their expertise in this fully illustrated guide to eating a balanced, alkaline diet that keeps the body in mind. They clearly explain the principles and benefits of this kind of eating, identifying both alkalizing and acid-forming foods, and offering the modern cook a host of flavoursome, easy-to-prepare recipes recommended for different times of the day and different stages of life.

The first section deals with the basics: the principles of healthy eating, the sources of and role played by vitamins, carbohydrates and protein, the identification of alkalizing and acid-forming foods and the ways in which an alkaline diet can nourish the body without placing the digestive system under strain. Learn how to boost your immune system, increase energy levels, maintain blood sugar levels and focus your mind through healthy eating.

The second section features mouth-watering recipes, from the first smoothie of the morning, through delicious salads and mains to the last healthy snack of the day. Accompanied by beautiful photographs, each recipe illustrates just how easy it is to prepare delicious and nutritious food that will make you feel great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honestly Easy - and interesting too! 9 Jun 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is inspiring... I've had it less than 24 hours and I've already made two recipes! The premise of the book is tagged as "alkaline" - however, this really wasn't my main reason for buying it. I am gluten/cow's milk intolerant and was hoping to find some healthy recipes I could adapt - not knowing that gluten ans cow's milk are two of the the things that the authors encourage avoiding. The book is also vegetarian, which I am not, though in these frugal times it's useful to have interesting and delicious meals that you can cook well without expensive meat/fish. I'd happily serve these at a "normal" dinner party - might even invite my vege mates round just so I can show off!

All the recipes are very accessible - I had most of the ingredients in my kitchen already - you may have to invest in some specialist flours and consider where you may find some "goats cheddar" (I found mine in my local supermarket with much surprise!) - and I suggest you buy some raw cacao powder and make the chocolate mousse (with the strange green ingredient) because it is absolutely to die for - and 100% guilt free! The instructions are clear and easy to follow - if you have a small understanding of food prep you'll find them a doddle.

The authors have clearly thought this through - and not just jummped on a band wagon to bang a drum, the "pitch" is sensible and doesn't make sensationalist promises. I have a collection of healthy eating diet and cookery books to rival the stock here in Amazon and this is absolutely the best one I have found so far. It's practical as well as being beautifully presented and a book I will buy to give as a gift in future. If this is what the authors/producers were going for then they have hit the nail on the head! VERY well done! Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic Book for Acid Indigestion Sufferers 26 Oct 2012
By Bevbaby
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a hiatus hernia and awful middle of the night acid attacks despite medication and raised pillows etc. This book - beautifully illustrated with yummy stuff - not only has recipes but lots of advice and information I have searched for on the internet without success - there is a load of really weird stuff out there. If you are interested in identifying alkalizing foods and including them in your diet I would recommend this book.

The writers are a bit evangelistic about a raw vegetable vegan diet but as a devout carnivore it contained enough useful information for me to have managed 2.5 weeks without waking up in the early hours with a mouthful of acid.

Well worth every penny

Someone at work had this book on their desk, and over the duration of the week I kept on drooling over it on my lunch break. Without the access to a kitchen at work, I decided to take it home to try out a couple of the recipes.
I am a massive foodie and in the past when i have tried to find healthy cookbooks, there are always only a handful of recipes that I would consider cooking due to the majority being a)way too bland b)way to boring and c) I would have to literally do an overhaul of my kitchen cupboards and spend a fortune.

In HH, I would definately consider doing at least 75-80% of all recipes and in one weekend I tried out 2 dinners, 2 salads and the Full HH breakfast which is now in my top 5 favourite breakies. Sometimes other recipes I have tried from other 'healthy' cook books always left me feeling empty and unsatisfied; the difference with HH is that I felt like I had a great tasty meal and did not leave me craving any 'badness'. If anything, it has inspired me to try and have more HH style meals in my everyday diet.

By the end of the weekend, I felt energised and well nutritioned (sometimes its easy to forget how your eating habits can really affect the way you feel inside and out).

Sadly I have to return the book to my work collegue, but I shall be ordering it without fail this week.
To the girls who put this cook book together, I salute you
