5.0 out of 5 stars Shawn's review, 5 April 2000
By Shawn - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Hondo (Audio CD)
I came across this album in Zimbabwe, Thomas Mapfumo's home town. I gave a local in a bar a few bucks on the condition that he plays every tune on the jukebox. The title song, Hondo came on. Mellow and hipnotic. I bought the Hondo CD, then the rest. If you like African music, not the cheesy staff made for whities like me, you will cherish this disc. And you will help the Lion of Zimbabwe spread his good words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thomas at his most hypnotic, natural mystic states, 24 July 2009

I happen to own 98% of Thomas Mapfumos commercial releases and if I rate this CD, I would put it at number 1, followed by Chamunorerwa (the album he did just before this one). This is first three cuts are pure, hyponotic mbira and a classical Thomas Mapfumo at his natural mystic best. I always suspect that when Thomas performed tracks number 2 and 3, he really must have been high on the holy plant because the songs and the performance is so trance inducing.
