As a professional gardener, I use this mower an estimated 30 times more in a year than that of a domestic gardener, for which it is intended. So far, after one and a half seasons of use, it has been very reliable, hasn't needed any repairs and has coped with all manner of situations admirably. The starting mechanism is by means of pulling a cord, but without the usual pumping of a 'nipple' (for want of a better word!). The cord-pulling isn't as difficult as some mowers I've tried, and so far it has started every time. The only slight caveat here, is that if transporting it over bumpy ground first, it's probably best to wait 5 minutes before attempting a start - most probably something to do with oil or fuel or some such thing! The cutting height is adjusted by means of a lever on the front wheels, and another lever on the rear wheels - again, no great hassle. The grass box is large and light weight, although the carry handle does tend to tip it up, so that when carrying, the grass cuttings can fall out if you're not careful. The grass box fits nicely through the middle of the handles, but again, someone should have given extra thought to the positioning of the cables, as they can get in the way when doing this. The self-propulsion is at a pre-determined speed, but just about right for walking behind. I have also used it on fairly steep slopes, and although a bit a practice is needed 'driving' it, it does the job very well. I opted for a model without a rear roller, just because of the weight issues, but nevertheless the cut is very clean, and the rubber attachement on the back does give the effect of a stripe, although not as good as that of a heavy roller. In conclusion, an excellent mower on lawns from 100 square metres up to half an acre.

As a gardener i`ve used Honda mowers for years, they are in my opinion unbeatable. This small Izy is absolutley superb... reliable as usual, and so light and manouverable for medium and even large lawns. I have 3 Honda`s , a 21" wheeled, a 19" with a roller and this recent addition the 18"Izy, and i find i`m using this one the most at the moment, as it`s so light and easy. It will tackle long wet grass, if you get the height setting well up for the first cut, then lower it succesivley for the following cuts. I was amazed how well it coped for such a small mower, hardly any sign of labour from the Honda 135 engine, so smooth and refined compared to some of the other rubbish that is out there. The cutting deck is so easy to clean also as it`s so free of any corners and things for the grass to hang up on. It really is a pleasure to see that they have put a lot of research into the workings of this mower, the cutting is first class and the airflow fills the bag to the last blade of grass...when it`s dry.
Anyone thinking of buying a mower of this size, don`t look at anything else, `cos they`ll only let you down. Brilliant..... 5 stars from me!

We purchased an 18" Honda Izy and after about a year of only light use the revs started "hunting" at idle and during use. I checked the air filter which still looked brand new, fuel, which was half full, uncontaminated, a suitable grade. Everything appeared fine with the throttle linkage but I decided as it was under warranty I would take it back to the local dealer to be looked at.

The local dealer ended up cleaning the carburettor and replacing the air filter, and although it was under warranty I was charged over £50 for the pleasure. The dealer were unable to give a satisfactory reason as to why it would have needed cleaning firstly suggesting the air filter was clogged, which I said was rubbish as I had checked it first and it was like brand new, then suggesting that perhaps it was letting particulates through into the carburettor. I reminded him that it was a filter and if it was doing this then it was clearly poorly designed by Honda and not doing the job a filter should, and should therefore be covered under warranty. Again he changed the story to say that the filter was now contaminated with fuel and that caused the fault.

The dealer basically kept changing their story in the hope I would back down, and even when I escalated it by going to Honda UK, the lady on the phone wasn't interested in the explanation and having spoke to the dealer she repeated their story back to me, I was also promised call backs by Honda UK twice, and twice told they had left a message on my phone but they hadn't, and they definitely had the correct number.

The actual mower when working is good and I was pleased with it other than this issue, however I consider the dealer to be untrustworthy and feel I have been charged for work that was possibly a warranty issue. Honda UK customer service was also lacking, although polite to speak to they have failed to reach any sort of conclusion and failed to get back to me, and so I consider them to be unreliable.

i had an izy and had maybe 8 years trouble free grass cutting, unfortunately over time the deck rusted away in places, so i decided it was time to purchase a new lawn mower.

my izy had been fantastic so i decided i would replace it with the same model.

the new hrg465sd has an auto choke rather than a throttle control, this has been the downfall of this machine, it starts when its cold but if you stop and need to start it again make sure you are not in a hurry as you may have to let it cool down before it will start again. the mower has been in and out of the dealership more times than i care to mention and they are still yet to fix the problem. this is the last time i i will buy a honda, i paid a premium for what i thought was going to be a quality bit of kit, its not!

next time i will buy a cheaper mower and take my chances.

i will also buy on the internet as the service i have received from the dealer has been shocking and not worth the premium you pay for buying from a registered dealer. the dealer has been very misleading and has carried out some shoddy work in an attempt to distance themselves from their responsibility.

my dealer told me their have not been any problems with these machines but when it was referred to another dealer he had a list of 4 or 5 problems that are common place with the fuel system on this model of mower.
