Marilyn Jaye Lewis, the Erotica Readers Association, on Hotter Than Hell
"This is by far the very best erotic fiction collection to come out in years. No kidding. Simon Sheppard's storytelling skills as unsurpassed."

This collection of gay erotica is almost a social history of gay men, from the days when gay erotica was circulated in secret, through the experimentation of liberation - to now. All tastes are catered for: elegaic, S & M, leather, bears, drug fuelled and just plain weird. Many of the stories are extracts from longer works such as 'Mr. Benson' and 'Mad About the Boy'. The latter, unavailable in print so far as I can tell, is a brilliant evocation of a world where gay sex was still frowned on by many but where, for gay men themselves, the revelation of the pleasure and sexual fulfillment that were available to them was overpoweringly liberating. Not every story will appeal, as erotica, to everyone but there is bound to be something here that will turn you on. And even those stories that do not make fascinating reading.

Great History & Smut! 27 May 2008
By sara-t - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
There's no denying that lots of women love man sex - doesn't matter if you identify as straight, queer or somewhere in between, experience tells me a good percentage of you are turned on by the thought of two men ravaging one another.

Homosex has plenty of that, but the fantastic thing about this compilation is that there's more to it than titillating stories. Simon Sheppard has managed to create a poignant, erotic history that touches on many of the major milestones of gay life in America through its erotica.

What makes this compilation amazing, in my opinion, are the editor's notes that proceed each story. Sheppard does a great job of setting the context for each piece and helps to tell this history through his brief, yet informative notes. Without his thoughtful research, this would be just another loosely bound concept of a book that would be hot, but forgettable.

The pieces included in this compilation cover sixty years and countless erotic fantasies. Even if you have little interest in the history lesson, you're sure to get off to the amazing stories!

So many times products don't match the bill of sale.

This was exactly what it claimed to be.

A sausagefest through and through.

fantastic collection, interesting history 29 Dec 2009

Not only does this anthology offer high quality gay erotica, it gives interesting historical and background information about the times in which these stories were originally published. For those who have preconceived ideas about what gay erotica was, is, and will be, this is a fine education on an underappreciated art form.

the never-sent book 22 Jan 2011

I'm sure I would have enjoyed this book immensely if I had ever received it, but I was informed that the order had been cancelled by the bookseller as the book was unavailable. Now, that's the way to make some money-tell someone the book they ordered is unavailable but fail to refund them what they paid for it.
