Product Description

Product Description

Homesteading is a way of life, a philosophy put into practice. Becoming a homesteader means deciding that self-sufficiency is the most important thing in life - and then living it. It's about reducing reliance on producers and manufacturers of all kinds. How? Grow and process your own food so you don't have to buy it. Gather and store your own energy so you don't need to be connected to the grid. Make your own products and trade with neighbors for things you don't have. Spend your time working hard, but working for yourself, with your family. Homesteading is a commitment to an ideal and it's often a shared journey that a family takes together, with trials and errors, small failures and great successes. Most importantly, it's about making the effort to be more self-sufficient.

Homesteading today can take on many different forms. It might mean having an extensive backyard garden with greenhouse, chicken coop, and root cellar, all smack dab in the middle of a city. Or maybe it's a more traditional set-up on a remote rural property, off the grid, living a life of back-to-the-land self-sufficiency on an acreage hundreds of miles from the nearest town.

Whatever vision you have for your homestead, there's a lot to learn but with a little preparation and planning and the motivation to make your life more self-sufficient, it is attainable. This book takes you through a bit of the background of homesteading and gives you plenty of good dirt-under-your-fingernails tips on how to get started, including information on water, energy, permaculture, food preservation, raising animals, and more.

As with all Simple Self-Sufficiency titles, this book is written in an interesting and readable manner, without all the "fluff". We aim to publish books in a way that will deliver to you all of the necessary information without going into an extreme amount of detail. We guarantee you will come out with expanded knowledge of the topic without you having to take days to read it. Enjoy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 17 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was disappointed in this book as I was expecting a practical guide with lots of useful information. In fact, I read the whole book in 10 minutes, which was basically a summary or overview of what homesteading is and what it involves - information you could find in 30 seconds through a quick google search.

1.0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking 9 July 2012
By Di Goodwin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These 26 pages are filled with kindergarten level, general information - common sense suggests that there would be at least SOME in-depth content from a book touted as a "guide"... sadly there is nothing in this pamphlet (it's too full of 'fluff' to be called even a booklet) worth the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Homesteading made simple 20 May 2012
By Goober Pyle - Published on Amazon.com

Not worth the $4.00 I paid for this "book." You can get more information on-line for free. Don't purchase this book. "No Fluff Guide" is right on the money. Maybe should be called "No Content Guide"instead. I tried to give this pamphlet NO STARS but the review won't allow it.

Its a good starting book to get some ideas of where to start but it doesnt really have any specific information to get you started
1.0 out of 5 stars horrible 16 Feb 2014
By Brandon754 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not worth the $3. No substantial information at all. For example, 3 paragraphs on chickens AND ducks. 3 paragraphs on pigs, one on bees. Not even enough info to get excited about. Worst book I've seen. Can't believe this crap was published.
3.0 out of 5 stars Covers broad subjects but light on details. 14 Nov 2013

This books was good about encouraging someone to get started with homesteading. However it was leaking a lot of detail. A number of good topics were touched on, but it really needed much more depth and how-to type of information. A good read that isn't too long and should at least get you interested in learning more about homesteading.
