HOME IS WHERE THE WAR IS

America may be reeling from endless recessions and crippling oil wars, but hack reporter Ben Walker never expected to see his homeland invaded and occupied by a reunified Korea—now a formidable world power under Kim Jong-il’s dictator son.

The enemy’s massive cyberattack is followed by the detonation of an electromagnetic pulse that destroys technology across the United States. Communications, weapons, and defense systems are rendered useless; thousands perish as vehicles suddenly lose power and passenger jets plummet to the ground.

Fleeing the chaos of Los Angeles, Walker discovers that although America’s military has been scattered, its fighting spirit remains. Walker joins the soldiers as they head east across the desert, battling Korean patrols—and soon finds his own mission. Walker reinvents himself as the Voice of Freedom, broadcasting information and enemy positions to civilian Resistance cells via guerrilla radio.

But Walker’s broadcasts have also reached the ears of the enemy. Korea dispatches its deadliest warrior to hunt the Voice of Freedom and crush the ever-growing Resistance before it can mount a new war for American liberty.

4.0 out of 5 stars great backstory - hope the game holds up 6 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Now I am not one for "What if" essays that you can pick up but this story just peaked my interest so I had to indulge. The story itself starts of with a lot of historical facts but then quickly moves onto the main story and for this I am glad. The characters come alive in this book and while it does play on the American heartstrings I think it does this with a degree of polish and does not ham it up. I enjoyed the book and I have pre-ordered the game and as my title suggests I hope it keeps up the good work.

I would really like to see a sequel that takes place after the game and whatever ending that has.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing setup to the game... 29 Mar 2011
By JakeTheSnake - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is action packed and was the perfect setup!!! If you are a gamer and like to know more about the backround of your games, read the books. Benson and Milius did a wonderful job drawing the reader into an alternate reality. The book is believable, realistic, and most of all highly plausible. If you have the game and are reading this, READ IT(if you like the game lol). If you want to know more about your future in Occupied America get your information here !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Weekend Read 22 Feb 2011
By J. Clark - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is good but its not great. It offers a very straight forward narrative that alternates between what happens to Ben Walker and Walker's journal. The author only really fleshes out a few other characters so its hard to get attached to some of them. However, the ones that are fleshed out like Wally Kopple are likable and at times sarcastic in the best of ways. I overall enjoyed the book with its short chapters and recurring action sequences. It's not chalked full of senseless action but it happens enough to keep the book on a fast-pace ride. It won't be winning any literary awards anytime soon but it offers an incite into a real possible future. I found that to be the most disturbing aspect of it all. This could really happen, maybe not by a "Unified Korea" but who knows. If you plan on playing the game, like I do, you will like this prequel and will likely feel more connected to the game as it plays out. If you're looking for an easy, quick read with action and a little romance this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars i love the game and the book 29 Mar 2011
By Monica L. Hassler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was an amazing look inside a possible but unsettleing future. this book follows the story of ex-reporter ben walker fleeing his L.A home weeks after an EMP detonation and a full scale invasion by The Greater Korean Republic. later in the book Ben is known as THe Voice Of Freedom, the voice of a propaganda resistance radio station provoding info on attacks and battles involving the nationwide resistance cells and the GKR. By the end, Walker had taken a beating throughout the book, but that just proves us Americans are determined. it was an overall good book but it scares the crap out of me just thinking about this becoming reality. i hope you find this review helpful!
