Book Description

Finn McCoy is a paranormal handler. He handles things that ordinary paranormal investigators can't or won't, and he often ends up cleaning up behind them.

For fifteen years, McCoy has turned his back on his hometown of Shallow Springs, Virginia, and the dark secrets the town harbors. But now an evil, unstoppable force has been unleashed on the unsuspecting residents of the town, and McCoy finds himself the only thing standing between the town and total destruction.

    More About the Author

I was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a town nestled in the mountains of Appalachia. Which, by the way, is pronounced "apple-atcha", not "a-puh-lay-shua". My favorite TV shows as a kid were "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and "Night Gallery" with Rod Serling. I was also drawn to books with larger-than-life heroes such as Doc Savage and Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane. I was (and still am) a big X-files fan, along with Lost, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead.
I prefer horror and thrillers where there is a real, supernatural villain as opposed to psychological horror, and I try to incorporate such characters into my stories.

    3.0 out of 5 stars bit of a disappointment 24 Mar. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
i bought this after reading and really enjoying scott langrels collection of short stories 'the grass monkey'. The finn mc coy character was introduced in the story 'the otter king' as was amanda who also features in this book. 'The grass monkey' which i thought a brilliant tale well told, tells us the beginning of cynthie and her fathers' rather sad situation which is concluded in this book. I found errors throughout, which ive come to suspect is normal for the majority of ebooks outside of those by best selling authors, however there were three here that i feel deserve a special mention -
in the prologue of homecoming a hound is described as "braying" at a treed animal instead of 'baying', pretty funny.
in the preview of 'shadows in the sand', terns disturbed on a beach "cajoled" the character who disturbed them which i can only imagine should have been 'scolded' which would be the usually term or possibly 'chided' at a stretch.
But the best comes in the preview for book 3, 'cold chills' when a man who finds himself lost in deep snow wishes he had worn not his 'galoshes' but his "goulashes". Hysterical, i suppose he could have eaten them to keep warm!
i wonder if a proof reader somewhere is sniggering to themselves as surely 'braying' and 'goulashes' are too funny to be genuine errors?!

Not sure ill be joining finn mccoy again soon, but will keep an eye on what SL has on offer as

5.0 out of 5 stars The darker side of fairy-kind 6 Jun. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
Having read 'The Grass Monkey & other tales' I was eager to read more of Finn McCoy.
I wasn't disappointed either. Well told and kept me reading until the very last page.
Whilst there are some who prefer to nitpick over a few typos or errors, I found it easy to get over any I found simply because the book was so enjoyable.
I will look forward to reading more Finn McCoy tales in the future with relish.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tale. It was one of those gems you find quite by chance. It had just the right amount of horror and plenty of mystery. Well recommended and I will be downloading the others in this series. Well done Scott.
