This review is from: Homebuilt Clocks (Paperback)
I am the author, and wished to describe the book, another addition to my "Homebuilt" series of build-it-yourself books.
It is a step-by-step guide for building Grandmother Style Wall Clocks; these are the large decorative antique type wall clocks with fancy wooden moldings top and bottom, and a hinged wood framed glass door.
The clocks are typically about 36"H x 11"W x 7"D and incorporate a Westminster Chime Electronic clock motor with pendulum. The motor chimes on the quarter hours, and gongs the count on each hour. Brass weight shells complement the brass finish dials and pendulum and are visible through the front glass. The motor functions for over a year on one "C" battery.
The antique styling combined with careful construction using attractive hardwoods results in a very beautiful assembly, something any craftsman would be proud to display.
The book describes the basic clock enclosure, routing the moldings, fitting the miter corners, and a careful staining and finishing procedure which provides a final finish equivalent to most fine furniture.
A final chapter describes the ease of conversion to a Mantel Style Clock.
