4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD 13 Dec 2012

My only problem about this very informative and visually engaging program is that it is too short. Each of the DVD only contains one hour of footage. They could have easily put the entire show on one DVD.
But I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in watching docu-drama type of films about British History.

4.0 out of 5 stars At home in the 18th century 5 May 2013
By wogan - Published on Amazon.com
This is a 3 disc set that explains in great detail the homes of the British Georgians. There are no extras and no captions for the deaf, which is always an irritation not to have on an educational DVD. This is not a TV series, in the sense of reenacting a story about a family; instead it is an in depth look at the homes of the upper class members of society in 18th century Britain.

Amanda Vickery narrates and guides the viewer through 3 hours divided into; `A man's place' - explaining how his home showed and demonstrated his success as a man and his place in society; `A woman's touch' - the way the lady of the house made this home hers and the change in design and decorating in this time period. ; and `Safe at home'- the dangers for a home owner and how they guarded and protected themselves and their property.

The viewer is given tours through various Georgian homes and looks at Vickery go through many letters, diaries and lists of Georgian life. There are some reenactments and speaking parts other than Vickery, but one might grow tired of hers being almost the only voice in this program, talking and reading without another voice for most of the time
A viewer has to be really interested in Georgian homes and decorating to appreciate this set; but if you are, this will be extremely interesting and enjoyable.
