Product Description

CD Description

The Port Isaac 'Fisherman's Friends' are a crew of fishermen and their friends who live within half a nautical mile of each other in the quaint old fishing village of Port Isaac. All are, or have been, connected to the sea either as fishermen, RNLI members, boatyard workers, Coastguard or Cliff Rescue staff. The group have sung live on the Gloria Hunniford TV Show 'Open House' as well as two other TV appearances and they are booked to sing at the Eden Project Grand Concert and take part in many local concerts during the summer. There is no doubt, however, their favourite events are the Friday evenings from June to September, in the lovely rugged harbour at Port Isaac. Although they have no Musical Director (not even a grade one music between them!), with a pint in the hand, a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and boats riding on their moorings, they are an unbeatable musical force. Tracks; Pass around the Grog / Randy Dandy Oh! / Hard Times Fisherman / Barrett’s Privateers / Pleasant and Delightful / South Australia / Shanty Man / Sail Away Ladies / Down Trinidad / A Sailor Ain’t A Sailor / Running Down to Cuba / Lower Light (Hymn) into Throw out the Lifeline / Yeller Girls, Sittin’ by the River on the Levee / Mingalay Boat Song, Paddy Lay Back / Grey Funnel Line / The Lifeboat Girl / Leave Her Johnny Leave Her / Home from the Sea

I'm very pleased with this. I saw them with Show of Hands at the R.A. Hall and they were excellent. When you consider these are all basically pub singers their harmonies are great. They are all connected with the sea in some way, so they're not a bunch of wannabes.

An excellent way to remember being entertained on the Platt during the summer in gorgeous Port Isaac. A fine selection of shanties that will have you singing along in no time.

Great CD 19 Jun 2010
Format:Audio CD
This is a 'before they were famous' CD and in many ways I prefer it to the more recent one. This one does not have instruments, just the wonderful voices.

Nice entry to the world of shanties
If not the most polished, certainly the most enthusiastic renditions I've heard and a real snip at this price. Great stuff!
