I just had to write a short review because basically all other reviews are hysterical!

People complain about the top having two parts when they don't even know what they have in their hands!
People, this is not a normal jar, this is a Mason jar that is being sold by KitchenCraft.
Mason jars are made for one specific reason - canning.

Of course, you could very well use it as a normal jar but that's not what it's designed for.
How do you can?
Oh brother... common... go to YouTube and watch some videos!

Basically, the process is as follows:
1. Clean and sterilize the jar by boiling it in water.
2. You put in the jar whatever you want to preserve, be that salsa, meet, whatever.
(please notice that you can't just can anything, you need to make it suitable, again, just watch videos on youtube!)
3. close the flat lead (after you've sterilized it) shut the screw top and boil it in water for 20-90 minutes depending on what it is you're canning. This will create vacuum and will effectively can and preserve what's inside the jar.
4. Cool on wet towel.

But again, if you want to do it seriously you need to educate yourself by reading, watching videos and buying a canning book.

I just thought that it's quite hilarious how people complain about the lead or use the jar for keeping cookies and not realising what they bought.

Anyway...
Happy canning =]

I bought several of these. The glass is thick. The lid is made of two parts: The one that screws it tight and a flat top. This makes it easier to clean. And it seals decent enough. I don't know if you could store things that need to be airtight for long periods, like a few months. But for homemade yogurts, flour, rice, butter milk, etc it's very good.

True, the bottom of the jar says "china" on it while the rest of the sides aren't embossed as many of the finer preserving jars, but I made a batch of American-style bread and butter pickles and they stood up to a boiling bath and sealed properly, so looks like they're value for money.

I personally use these for making kefir and they are great. also nice to drink out of and you can actually put them in boiling water as they are meant for canning which is a bonus when i heat the sugar up to melt I no longer need to dirty a saucepan aswell.
