Product Description

Review

Tailor-made furnishings are what every home needs and a professional touch makes all the difference. This book shows how to avoid the time-wasting pickles amateur sewers are familiar with. The wealth of experience includes advice on cutting out various types of fabric. Many classic designs are covered - properly covered chairs, various styles of curtains, blinds and cushions. Advice is given on the techniques professionals use in measuring up and hanging, sewing tips such as how to insert zips or add piping, to make this a distillation of the author's 30-year career in the field. Thirty-five step-by-step projects put the techniques into practice. (Kirkus UK)

As a tutor of soft furnishings at a local college I am always looking for new books both for my use and for recommendation to students. I find this book both interesting and informative with very clear instructions and diagrams. The styles range from simple to expert and are up to date in design. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book to both beginners and experts as a good reference and learning aid.

I ordered this book by mistake when browsing for a book on curtain making. The pictures are clear and instructions are detailed. A really nice book which I will be happy to keep and recommend to my friends. If you are making your own curtains or soft furnishings it is a must have, professional looking curtains and a mine of information. If you want a book that shows you how to actually make designer curtains and soft furnishings and not a book with with just pretty pictures then this is the one to go for. You may have guessed already I love it.

A great investment 28 July 2009
Format:Paperback
After going to soft furnishing classes and finding myself firmly at the bottom of the class, I left believing sewing was not for me. I bought this book and although it took some time, I have produced a pair of bay window curtains with pencil pleat headings in a patterned Laura Ashley fabric. I am an absolute beginner and if I can do this anyone can. This book is fabulous and a great investment.
