...it contains sumptuous pictures - and very little else. If you want a sophisticated kid's book, buy it. If you want a valuable reference, forget it: this book is too superficial.

Some of the chapters e.g. beekeeping convey little more information than the title of the chapter (Beekeeping is the keeping of bees).

Very disappointing from DK and more akin to, though less informative than, books by their imitating publishers.

Despite (or perhaps because of...) its more 'modernized' looks (excellent photos and eye-catching drawings) I really think this one is quite comparable (if not better) to John Seymour's "bible", Self-Sufficiency (and some of you must forgive me for the heresy!)
Anyway, you can always couple Heyney's with Seymour's, both typical of DK's design, perhaps the former being more 'graphic' and the latter more 'juicy'.

A very good buy indeed.

This really is a fantastic book. An extremely enjoyable read, it covers in a very well-judged level of depth every aspect of creating a "Home Farm", from selection of the animals and crops, through layout, to how to care for it all on an ongoing basis. Sumptuously and attractively illustrated throughout in the normal DK fashion, this book really is a joy on every level. A must-have purchase for anyone interested in the subject.
