More About the Author

Author, freelance writer and social media consultant, Anne Louise O'Connell, has been an expat since 1993 when she and her husband escaped the cold of Toronto, Canada and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They enjoyed the sun and sand for 14 years, while she worked in the PR field, and then decided it was time for a new adventure. Heading for even more sun and sand, they moved to Dubai in late 2007 and then on to Thailand in 2011.
Since 2007, Anne has been writing books while doing freelance copywriting, editing, author mentoring and social media consulting, along with conducting writing retreats and workshops. She is a regular contributor to Global Living Magazine and Expat Focus. She and her husband have a passion for travel and that adventurous spirit has taken them all over the world.

Anne grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and has a bachelor of public relations from Mount St. Vincent University. She is the author of @Home in Dubai... Getting Connected Online and on the Ground; 10 Steps to a Successful PR Campaign - a Do-it-Yourself Guide for Authors; and Mental Pause, her first novel, a 2013 Independent Publisher Book Award winner. Her next novel, Deep Deceit, is due out on March 8, 2015.

She has also edited a children's book called General Nutty and the Ink Pots by Pauline Oliver as well as a memoir set in India called The Family from Padma Vilas by Padmini Sankar and workbooks in the Embers of the World series by Debbie Nicol.

In simple, easy steps, Anne O'Connell helps you navigate through what appear to be the many daunting tasks required to set up base in Dubai. Written in a chatty, informal style, the book helps to clarify the many frustrating or confusing rules and regulations that pertain to this city, whether it's renting a house or getting your work visa to hiring a maid or even getting your pet over to live with you. Especially handy is the "Five-Step Recap" which comes at the end of each chapter. This book is indispensable if you are contemplating a move to Dubai, or if you've recently moved to this emirate.

Meet Dubai. Or in resident expert Anne O'Connell's words, a city which is "wall-to-wall hyperbole". A native Canadian who had previously relocated to Florida, O'Connell paints a vivid picture of her latest home. "Think New York meets Las Vegas on steroids" urges a writer whose imagination is often allowed to run riot. Captivating in its colourful prose, the book is also an essential handbook for those planning a new life in the UAE. O'Connell offers case studies aplenty from fellow expats she's met during her attempts to settle in Dubai. Well-researched, this is a book that will allow you to relax and save you all the effort of finding these nuggets of information yourself.Going Local in Gran Canaria: How to Turn a Holiday Destination into a Home

@home in Dubai is exactly what one needs when relocating to a new city - it's up-to-date, aligned to today's needs, loaded with call-outs so you read only that which you need, is 'down and dirty' giving the reality of Dubai and hence is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! If this guide had been around when I ventured to Dubai, my road may have had less bumps along the way! @home in Dubai - as wholesome as its author!
