5.0 out of 5 stars RETURN TO "CLASSIC" PSB SOUND 28 May 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Well done track starting with a synth-bass sequence line that doesn't fade out till the end of the song. "Home and dry" sounds like a track recorded for "Behaviour" album and it's probably the best PSB track in ages to remind us their golden years. But it is not enough to give it 5 stars (i'll put this track only four). Which helps me to give this single the maximum rating is the 2 tracks that comes with "Home and dry". "Always" is a stunning slow track with another full-song-synth-sequence and Neil singing in a very different way than he use to sing, making it a haunting track and probably the best PSB b-side since "Decadence" (1993 "Liberation" b-side). "Sexy Northerner" is a high-NRG track with "Relentless"-like music background but sung by Neil. I think this track would have fit much better than "The Samurai in Autumn" in the album not because this song is bad (it's really cool) but "The Samurai..." hasn't anything in common with any of the tracks on "Release" and "Sexy Northerner" would have made "Relase" a much more cohesive album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something of a return to form 20 Mar 2002
By Neil Lewis VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Poppier than some of their recent output, Home and Dry is a driving rock-influenced ballad, Sexy Northerner a decent if deadpan dance number and Always is vocoder-laced and wistful.
Hopefully this single points the direction the Boys are taking for the upcoming album 'Release'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Pet Shop Boys injection! 14 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Yes, the first single from the PSB's in a dogs age to be instantly likeable! I did like "IDKWYWBICGIA", "NYC Boy", and "Drunk" but they were definite growers. "Home and Dry" is a lovely irreverent little love song on it's own, but listened to in conjunction with some of the album tracks on "Release" it also seems to form part of a commentary about a lost loved one in the World Trade Centre atrocities. Whether these songs were written before or after that I have no idea, but the sentiment and lyrics flowing through the songs is uncanny...

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Pet Shop Boys, only Good! 21 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Yup - I am a determined disliker of everything PSB, just because. I dislike their chirpychirpycheapcheap, the bleeps and bloops, the overkill campness, and just about everything else, which oozes eighties horror to me.
AND YET - this is begrudgingly good. A wonderful little song that catches you without using their overworn cliques. It holds everything that is good about the Pet Shop Boys, and puts it in a way non-fans can enjoy. I was shocked at myself for liking it, but the very hip alternative radio station XFM have it on steady rotation, so it's not just me.

At first one have to thank the PSB for making some of the 'Break 4 Love' mixes available in Europe, and the ambient mix of H&D is a gem! Still I can't help thinking that it would have been more interesting seeing other renditions of
the title track than the already US-released mixes of the collaboration made with Peter Rauhofer. The B4L-mixes are well chosen though, and the Hi-Pass mix is a lovely 70's influenced thingy that will make ya move, the UK radio mix is also much better than the US-dito in my opinion! But the problem is that most of us will be buying this CD for one track - the ambient mix of H&D, casual fans won't be buying CD2, and the rest of us have probably allready gotten the US imports of B4L (or vice versa if you live in the U.S.) But should you by any chance have forgotten/missed out on B4L, then buy this for gods sake =)
