Book Description

3 Oct 2000
'The Home of the Blizzard' is a tale of discovery and adventure, of pioneering deeds, great courage, heart-stopping rescues and heroic endurance. This is Mawson's own account of his years spent in sub-zero temperatures and gale-force winds. At it heart is his epic sledge journey of 1912-13, during which both his companions perished. Told in a laconic but gripping style, this is the classic account of the struggle for survival of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition - a journey which mapped more of Antarctica than any expedition before or since. The photographs included ion this book were taken on the expedition by Frank Hurley, later to achieve fame on Sir Ernest Shackleton's Endurance expedition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home of the Blizzard 23 Feb 2011
By Jenko
Format:Paperback
This book was exactly what I expected, a detailed and comprehensive account of Mawsons time in Antarctica. Every aspect of the expeditions time was covered, how they arrived there, how they sought out the best bases and went about seting up 'home' in this strange and unknown land. It was a really good read and everything I hoped it would be. I would recommend it to anyone who likes this type of book.
