Quality viewing. 12 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
This DVD is a must for any Seekers fan. The chances are you have never seen these two programmes especially in the UK, I never have. All the big hits are included and a great selection of famous B sides and other fine material. Judith Durham looks lovely throughout (as usual)and sings like an angel accompanied by "The boys" with their impeccable harmonising and instrument playing. The programmes contain nice scenes including one of the group singing Morningtown Ride on an old steam train. The quality of the picture and sound is very good considering they were recorded in the sixties. One is in black and white and the other in colour. You won't be disappointed with this one.

I remember seeing the "At home" documentary on the BBC when the group were in their heyday and the print is a bit spotty, but the sound is great. They never tried to be "cutting edge", which is probably why their music has an enduring quality - and they certainly quit while they were ahead. They have proved in recent years that they can still fill the largest concert venues. Some of the footage in the "Down Under" part looks a bit contrived, but that was the style of the time. A good buy for both the fans and anyone who likes simple, tuneful music immaculately performed by people with real talent. The high spot for me was Judith Durham's rendition of "The Olive Tree" - a song written specifically for her I believe.

seekers on film 25 Aug 2009
By Ms. M. Potter TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
This DVD is a great release because you can get a snapshot of tv history. It firmly places you into the world of the mid 1960`s. These days pop groups have promo videos of their songs. But back in the 1960`s it was rare to find a promo film for a pop song. But these classic programmes provide mini films to enhance their pop songs. Much like a promo video. Most of these actual songs and film are directed well and work in their 1960`s way. However the rest of the shows are very dated. The interview bits and the seekers talking, all sounds very stilted and staged. However I agree with the general mood of the other reviewers that this is a gem of a dvd release. The only thing I disagree with is that the sound is not very good. I understand that they have preserved the original sound of the programme for historical acuracy, (and probably some legal contractual reason) but when you consider that most of the song sequences are not recorded as a live performance, and that the seekers are on location film with the sound of the songs dubbed over them, you would have thought they could have re dubbed the sound using the remastered original audio STEREO mixes as used on the various compilation CD`s and albums on CD. Its only the same recordings they used on the actual sound of the original tv shows. (at the time of recording the tv shows the stereo mixes were available on LP but wouldnt be on the tv shows because of the lack of stereo tv sound. But it could have been included on this DVD) And for the purists that think everything should stay "historical" (mono) they could have given us this better sound as an extra feature. I think it was a missed chance to create a truly great modern Video collection of their greatest hits. However I still think this is a good DVD release for any fan of the wonderful Seekers
