I'm more of a Warrior Soul fan than a Killing Joke fan so whilst I was intigued to hear this CD I didn't really have a great deal of anticipation built up about hearing it. Partly as the main driving force of the project, Paul Raven, passed away during the making of it therby limiting the amount of material they had to work with and what they could do with it.

However having heard it...wow. I wish Kory had put so much effort into the new Warrior Soul CD. Theres a part of me that wonders how it would have sounded had Raven still been around to over-see it's completion. I'm sure there wouldn't have been the need to pad the album out with seven remixes that whilst ok are hardly essential.

If you are a Kory/Warrior Soul fan this sounds like a heavier/more industrial "Last Decade Dead Century". Highlights ? "New Religion", "This One's For You", "Sky God Worshippers" & "New Paradigm". "Skull & Bones" coulda been a great single/video & the closing instrumental "Atmosphere" brings to mind NIN.

Kory Clarke's vocal style is what prompted me to buy this.
I saw Warrior Soul live in London in 2001 and the songs were done to perfection.

So no surprise to hear that the vocals are pretty much Kory Clarke.

Wambulance is my fave'. It has a very groovy feel to it, yet still heavy. The remixes at the end , I feel are too much. Very good generally and probably a loss that the driving force behind this band is no more.

cool cover, by the way.

This is a band that the late Paul Raven of Killing Joke put together a number of years ago. Completed by erstwhile Warrior Soul frontman Kory Clarke and guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite, it's filled with caustic riffs, Raven's sledgehammer basslines and Clarke's rasping, cyanide vocals. Clarke paints a bleak picture, his uncompromising, insightful lyrics lambasting a depraved, delusional and corrupt society, while the music is similarly discordant and dark. But it's not all doom and gloom, with the druggy haze of 'New Paradigm' and, er, atmospheric closer 'Atmosphere' offering some respite; the hilarious, emo-baiting 'Wambulance' meanwhile (also presented here as a remix, complete with that infamous Christian Bale rant) shows that the band both have a sense of humour and can rock like absolute monsters. And with the positively uplifting 'This One's For You', the message seems to be that in troubled times as these, you're just as well standing by your buddies and having a good time as you are getting all angry and depressed...

A fitting tribute to legendary musician and a great album in its own right.
