Review

An immensely entertaining book (USA Today )

Product Description

Deep in the Vatican's inner sanctum lies a dark and terrifying secret . . . a secret that has been concealed for decades, and one that its keepers will stop at nothing to protect.

In 1978 Pope John Paul I dies in mysterious circumstances. His successor, John Paul II, emerges from the conclave unaware that he is in mortal danger. It is only through the actions of a few loyal operatives that his assassination is prevented.

Thirty years later journalist Sarah Monteiro begins to uncover the sinister machinations of a covert agency, whose web of lies and injustice hides the true power behind the throne.

It would seem that the dark forces are still at large, and Sarah faces a life-or-death struggle in the name of truth and faith.

I am a fan of this genre of book ... and was expecting this to be half decent ... however I could not understand the plot .. the characters kept switching sides ... the plot was just all over the place .. normally I do not continue with a book I don't like ... in this case I did ... and at the end I have to say I had simply no idea whatsoever what the book was about ... Save yourself the time and money and give this one a very wide berth unless you have too much of both of these in your life.

A pleasure to read 1 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
After all the negative opinions about the book "The holy assassin" I want to give another, a positive one. I agree, that it was somewhat confusing to read, because of the change of scenery all the way, but even though I was able to follow the plot and even enjoy reading - the most important thing. To me the story was suspenseful and the style attracting me unto the last page. Well, it was even a pageturner... So different can experiences be about one and the same book.... However, I also agree, that "The last Pope" was the better one, but I;m sure I;m going to read the following book for sure, for after all Luis M. Rocha takes you there, to all the spots, the story takes place and you also meet the characters acting. This is much important to me to continue reading. So to me, the book is no cathastrophe as mentioned by those other readers, but you have to be patient and well concentrated on the text;-)

Having been totally blown away by "The Last Pope", by the same author, I have kept a close eye on the release date for this his second novel. What a waste of time and energy. I have abandoned "The Holy Assasin" after 367 pages, having all but lost the will to live, and any curiosity I may have had about the ending. By page 367 I was no nearer understanding the plot, the reason or the difference between the two!
Do read "The Last Pope", just dont think that this, the sequel, will come anywhere near its calibre.
