4.0 out of 5 stars Boults best Planets 19 Jan 2012
Format:Audio CD
I must correct someone who said that this recording was in electronic stereo. It is'nt as a quick listen will tell. In my opinion, and I have many versions of this work in my collection, this is the finest, and better than Boults 1966 EMI issue. OK so the recording sounds best on speakers rather than headphones, when it sometimes smacks the ears. But all in all it is masterly, and at the price asked,a rare bargain.
To those of a certain age, when every town had one or two record shops, the Marble Arch record label will be familiar. This recording, which I suspect was made by PYE,was one of my first classical purchases, and its great to add it once again to my collection. Try it. You will be suprised at the quality of playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice recording. 14 Nov 2013

Good sound quality, no hissing and the files are not alarmingly small. Only gripe is it can be a bit quiet top end, on an mp3 player

This is the finest of Boult's various versions and still carries with it a unique authority which renders it utterly indispensible to to the Holst collector.
