An eye-opening read 10 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
I started off reading this with hardly any prior knowledge of Linda's life story, other than the fact that I knew her name. However, I can honestly say this book is filled with many interesting facts and background info on the 'good o' Hollywood days' and facts of a gone, but not forgotten era - an era that Linda was part of, but also observed, seemingly from a distance....

A very good read.

By Mr. W. J. Wright TOP 500 REVIEWER

"HOLLYWOOD BEAUTY LINDA DARNELL AND THE AMERICAN DREAM"-is a very great read about this lovely legendary actress. LINDA DARNELL a stunningly beautiful brunette, her real name was MONETTA ELOYSE DARNELL and born on October 16,1923,in Dallas,Texas, she sadly died in a tragic house fire in April 1965,in Glenview,Illinois.
LINDA DARNELL,in her 1940s heyday had a sultry beauty appearance. First appearing in films from 1939,Darnell would make a variety of different film genres-including,Film Noirs,Westerns,Period Adventures/Pirates,and would eventually make dozens of movies.
Three of her most famous were the Film Noir-FALLEN ANGEL-1945,black and white, the John Ford Western-MY DARLING CLEMENTINE-1946,black and white, and the 17th century based Period romantic adventure-FOREVER AMBER-1947,in glorious Technicolor. In another one of her film roles, she added the sexy glamour in the Pirate adventure-BLACKBEARD THE PIRATE-1952,also filmed in Technicolor.
The book itself has some 208 pages plus many black and white photos, and goes into detail about Linda's family life, her ups and downs in Hollywood and her films. Also included is a full detailed Filmography.
Regards,Bill.

Tragic star 14 April 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Linda Darnell was a product of the Hollywood star system. She went to Hollywood ,with no real acting training, pushed by her mother and eventually was given a contarct by Twentieth Century Fox.She then appeared in over 40 films most at her home studio. She had a temestuous private life and became an alchoholic. In 1954 she was released from her contract by Fox.She thought that she had been let out of prison. However the problem was that she really didnt know what to do with her career. She was the wrong side of 30 and her career started to slide. She died at the tragically early age of 42 in a fire. How she came to die is still a mystery which the author is unable to answer. Was she drunk and unable to think straight, did she want to commit suicide. We will never know.the author provides a well researched and rather sad story of the rise and fall of a Hollywood star.
