5.0 out of 5 stars Plotting that even a 'pantser' can do 29 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first review I've ever put up on Amazon, and I can't honestly say I'll make a habit of it (I'm not good at writing reviews, I think there's a real art to it), but I HAD to write something to recommend Holly Lisle's Create A Plot Clinic. Worth every penny and, even though I find it very hard to outline/plan out a book in advance, I found the clinic incredibly helpful. It works particuarly well (imo) when you're stuck part way through a draft - as I was - and I'm now using the revisions section too, to fix my ending. I don't think I'd be nearing the end of writing my current book without this 'clinic' and I can't think of a higher recommendation than that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little book to fix your plot problems 16 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's amazing how easy it is to get good quality `writing books' on the Kindle these days. Gone are the days when you'd walk into you local book shop and spend a hefty sum on a text that may or may not be the one you needed. This little book is a case in point: for a small sum, you get a lot of useful information.
This `plot clinic' book has already been a good investment to me - even if only parts of its content apply to what I am writing. But it's densely packed with advice: from the `tools' that you need to structure your plot - which include software recommendations - to a few games that will help you look at your plot ideas from a different perspective. I am pleased to say that have already played a game of `Pong' with my `muse' with surprisingly good results.

I really liked Holly Lisle's writing style - it never becomes dull and prescriptive, like some of the other `writing gurus' out there. I am certainly planning to read more of her writing `clinics' soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Novelist's Best Friend 7 Dec 2010
By Julian - Published on

An absolutely amazing course. There are a couple redundancies, but the clinic helped me add tension, intrigue, and overall coherence to my plot. I wrote my first three stories with this clinic, and now they're all being published. I cannot recommend this highly enough for the aspiring writer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Holly Lisle Plot clinic review 30 Dec 2010

I was sceptic first when I ordered this book. I found it hard to learn to do plots by just reading instructions. However if you are struggling to put together a compelling, coherent plot and you have a novel brewing but can't quite finish it then you should order this book.
The author helps you through the usual problems of writing offering simple and effective techniques (worksheets, examples, how-to-do) she herself has used to plot her own published novels.
SHe helps you to create a plot and to even enjoy the process of writing a novel.
OBS. This is not a genre specific instruction book (like so many others are). This is a general how-to-write-a-proper-plot -instruction book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Hands-On educational tool for Authors 7 Dec 2010
By Storm Weaver - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
The Create-A-Plot clinic is a detailed, step-by-step approach to both understanding and creating solid plots for fiction works. It takes the writer through exercises designed to evoke the solid foundation necessary for readers to connect with the story the author has created.

Each section of the Create-A-Plot Clinic breaks down not ONLY the "Hows" but also the "Whys" for plot creation, and explains the fundamental necessities for a solid plot, as well as the more intricate ways of developing the story in sensible and effective ways.

I strongly recommend this clinic for both established writers and those who are just starting out.Holly Lisle's Create A Plot Clinic

5.0 out of 5 stars This should be called Writing for Dummies.... 28 May 2011
By Vanessa Wells - Published on

Holly Lisle is the author of several outstanding courses for writers. She's a published author with 30-something books in several different genres...this isn't advice from someone who published three self-help books on a vanity press...she's the real deal. Her courses are FULL of hidden gems, stuff that it would take years to learn on your own.

The best part is that I still pull out the clinics whenever I hit a snag on a story. Is my villain a cardboard cutout? There's a clinic for that. Did my brilliant plot somehow fizzle like uncorked Champaign while I was dealing with my main characters? She doesn't tell you what to write, she just gives you the right questions to ask so you can make it pop again.

Buy the clinics, and then check out her website. This stuff is pure gold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 27 Dec 2012
By Karen Prince - Published on

So, I bought this book a couple of years ago, before I learned about Amazon reviews. It is my all time favorite book after the handfull of fantasy authors works that I collect.

I keep it right on my desktop and whenever I am stuck in my writing, I think "What would Holly Lisle do?" Look it up and I'm off again. It is packed full of useful ideas and tips, not only about plotting but tools of the trade and work flow too. Due to Holly's advice, I have organized my work in such a way that all my research is right at hand when I go to write subsequent books in the series.

Brilliant. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is starting out with their writing, but it also has some excellent advice for those who already know what they are doing.
