5.0 out of 5 stars A useful practical book 3 April 2011
By Hydra
Unlike many wildlife field guides, which are heavy and cumbersome to carry around with you, this is a truly excellent portable little guide with basic information about many of the fascinating insects you are likely to see outdoors, including dragonflies and damselflies, grasshoppers and crickets, beetles, bees and wasps. Each insect is illustrated with at least one beautiful artwork, and some species include illustrations of additional details.

The weatherproof wallet is a bonus, as is the insert chart giving a quickly accessible illustrated overview of the insects.

I would recommend this book, and the other books in this series, to any nature lover - and they are very competitively priced, given the amount of information, including illustrations, they contain.

4.0 out of 5 stars A present that went down better than expected 26 Jan 2012
I bought this as a present for my partner who is insect mad. I thought it looked a bit basic for her when it came, but she loves it. I think the quality of images is what she finds most useful and the simplicity of the layout makes it easier to get to the nub of the matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good pocket guide 9 Jan 2013

Good pictures and easy to read text with all the useful information you need for identification purposes. One or two species have been omitted but this does not detract from it's overall usefulness.

Quite good as pocket guides go, nice size to fit in your pocket. Quite good illustrations and some text for species. Not as good as some field guides but then they are a lot heavier to carry around.
