I purchased this book prior to a visit in the Alpujarra - a region that I had never visited. My experience was that Jeremy Rabjohns's book proved to be a concise introduction to the area. In its introduction the book provides a good thumbnail sketch of the region, e.g.its food and drink, its customs and history. For me it provided the right amount of detail. The walking section of the guide contains clear, accurate route descriptions. Walks covering a wide area are included,not just those in the Poqueira Valley and La Taha. The sketch maps are very helpful but I would still advise that they be used with a map of the area.

We have recently returned from a week's holiday in the Alpujarra where we used this book extensively. Jeremy's book greatly enhanced our enjoyment of this quite lovely area. His route descriptions were faultless and made the walks quite easy and consequently even more enjoyable than we had anticipated. If felt as if we were walking alongside an experienced leader and his local tips about where to find things were amazingly accurate. You can tell that this book has been written by someone who really knows the area and is very keen to share his knowledge with you, the reader. Highly recommended to walkers visiting this area.

I bought this to help us discover the Alpujarra on a spring break. It really made our holiday. The walks were varied and it was easy to select a walk suitable for us (three generations walking together) with the help of the altitude and distance graphs at the end. It was also easy to adapt the walks if necessary. The author recommends having a good walking map as well, but we risked not doing so - his instructions were extremely clear and the sketch maps perfectly adequate. Highly recommended.
