A classic album with excellent musicianship and superb vocals. Not as well known as some of their other albums this is one of the, if not the best. Highlights are so many but if Old Man Took does not make you feel melancholy then you have no feeling! If you want to hear what a truly great group America were then buy this you will not be disappointed.

When Beatle's producer George Martin returned to the studios he'd recorded many of the classic Beatle's albums in, it was this group, America, he chose to work with. The reason why was immediately evident in the resulting album - their superb songs and melodies, his great recording and production values. The linking between songs, and beautiful opening intrumental, are all classic George Martin hallmarks, that go straight back to the 'Sergeant Pepper' album.

I played this album endlessly in 1974, and returning to it now find it sounds even better. It took the elements of the best Beatle's music, added in a British-American 'twist' lyrically, and lost the harsher Lennon-elements of the Beatles.

I was and am still puzzled why the British public preferred to buy the dross that was British music in the mid-70s, and not this, but as time now tells, this is a SUPERB album, by a talented group, and in my opinion, their best.

Recorded (impeccably of course) at AIR London studios, then located on the 4th floor of 214 Oxford Street. An album, really, of pretty little ditties, masterfully produced and orchestrated by the great George Martin, following on from the not-so-great Hat Trick. Old Man Took is one of their loveliest songs (from this era), though the whole album is beautiful, excepting only the last track which I never much liked. Short, but wonderful and not at all diminished by the passage of time.

A Japanese digitally remastered edition is available, though it's not cheap and the original CD issue is fine as it is.
