As a pleasant dose of holiday cheer, The Holiday is a lovable love story with all the Christmas trimmings. In the capable hands of writer-director Nancy Meyers (making her first romantic comedy since Something's Gotta Give), it all begins when two successful yet unhappy women connect through a home-swapping website, and decide to trade houses for the Christmas holiday in a mutual effort to forget their man troubles. Iris (Kate Winslet) is a London-based journalist who lives in a picture-postcard cottage in Surrey, and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) owns a movie-trailer production company (leading her to cutely imagine most of her life as a "coming attraction") and lives in a posh mansion in Beverly Hills. Iris is heartbroken from unrequited love with a cad of a colleague (Rufus Sewell), and Amanda has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend (Edward Burns), so their home-swapping offers mutual downtime to reassess their love lives. This being a Nancy Meyers movie (where everything is fabulously decorated and romantic wish-fulfillment is virtually guaranteed), Amanda hooks up with Iris's charming brother Graham (Jude Law), and Iris is unexpectedly smitten with Miles (Jack Black), a super-nice film composer on the downside of a failing relationship. --Jeff Shannon

The Holiday is a great romantic comedy set in two locations; Surrey, England and L.A, USA. When Amanda (Cameron Diaz) breaks up with her cheating boyfriend, she decides she needs to get away from it all so she searches online for 'vaction hotspots'. While trawling through the internet, she comes across a House Exchange, where she meets Iris, a writer for the Times who also wants to get away from it all. The two decide to swap houses for two weeks, so Iris jets off to L.A while Amanda is stuck in Snowy Surrey (albeit fake snow, and rather recognisable fake snow at that).
The film is full of laughs, and all the actors involved put up a good performance. Despite half the movie being set in the snow, it manages to help you forget about your own snow trouble you're currently suffering through. For me personally though, I would have loved to have seen a movie just about Iris' time in L.A.
All in all a definite must have in your movie collection.

Not your laugh-out-loud kind of romantic comedy but just a nice bit of entertainment for an evening. Definitely scores high on the feel-good factor and the acting is nicely balanced and natural too. Don't expect any shocking moments, courseness or crudity..... gentle enough for my mother to watch.
Not my usual kind of flick (mid-thirties male with an enthusiasm for thrillers) but rapidly turned into one of my favourites and found a place on the shelf with my Bourne DVDs.

I cannot recomend this film enough! It's funny, its romanitc and an all round great film. The sound track has something that makes you want to play it all over again. Jude Law, Jack Black and Kate Winslet all gave brilliant performances, Cameron's however, lacked the certain pizaz that she ususally has. But over all, one cracking Christmas film!

great film you can watch over and over
tapped film off tv , much better on dvd no adverts , and it cant get wipped and you can watch over and over again .

In perfect condition
Picture quality and sound were perfect. Very worthy of an adult Christmas movie collection. I'd recommend this movie to anyone.
