'A great read, great story, and a great love...what champions you both are.' Bear Grylls (Leading mountaineer & explorer)

Product Description

Having faced death head on, we wanted no regrets. It was time to go'. In 2005 Rob and Jo Gambi became the first married couple to achieve the ultimate adventurer's ambition when they climbed the 'Seven Summits' (the highest mountains on all seven continents) and skied to both the North and South Poles together in record time. Rob is also the first Australian and Jo the first female to achieve this feat. What makes their story even more remarkable is that they achieved all this while Rob was in remission from his second bout of cancer. In spite of setbacks and facing death high in the Himalayas, they persevered and fulfilled their dreams (while unwittingly setting a string of records). Jo's inspiring book is not just an enthralling account of mountaineering and polar achievements; it is a powerful and emotional story of love and survival against the odds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring account of love and survival against the odds, 12 Sep 2006
By Nigel Braggins (England) - See all my reviews

"Holding On" will make you laugh and cry - an incredible story, brilliantly told. You don't need to be interested in mountaineering to be captivated and inspired by this book. Full of drama and suspense, it's hard to put down. The high altitude chapters left me struggling for breath!

Rob and Jo Gambi broke several world records when they became the first married couple to ski to both Poles and climb the Seven Summits (the highest mountains on the seven continents). An extraordinary feat of endurance for anyone, but made all the more so because Rob had spent the previous 18 months recovering from his second serious bout of cancer.

"Holding On" is much more than an enthralling account of determination and courage; it is a powerful and emotional story of love and survival against the odds. It's exciting, fast-paced and very well written with remarkable good humour and some great pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic , exciting, down to earth read!, 28 Oct 2007

This is a truly exciting book. Jo is a Physiotherapist, a normal everyday person like ourselves. Her husband was virtually new to climbing when they met. Despite him suffering cancer and having one or two setbacks, they conquered so much together it is amazing. It is written in a very easy to read style, no big technical words, just a genuine story telling the ups and downs (pardon the pun) of their awesome journey.
It takes a lot to keep me reading after a long day at work....I couldnt put this down! How about another book Ms.Gambi?
