Book Description

28 Oct 2008 Hearts of the South (Book 3)
She keeps a secret buried in the past. He wants the truth-now. But an unknown killer could destroy their future. Book Three in the Hearts of the South series. For FBI profiler Caitlin Falconetti, immersing herself in her job is the only way to quell the memories of a vicious, near-fatal attack and all it cost her, including the only man she ever loved. Better to let him think she simply rejected him, rather than reveal a painful secret that she's certain would have destroyed his feelings for her. Investigator Lamar "Tick" Calvert is determined to clean out the corruption-riddled sheriff's department in his hometown. While he understands Caitlin's drive to excel at her job, it doesn't mean he's happy about the prospect of working with his former lover, the one woman he tried and failed to hold onto. A rash of unsolved murders brings them together to find the murderer before another woman dies. Daily contact re-ignites the lingering attraction between them, but Caitlin won't risk opening herself and revealing her secret. She plans to complete the killer's profile, make an arrest and get out of town for good. Tick plans to solve this case, too, but now that Caitlin's back in his life, he also plans to finally dig up the truth about why she left him. But there's an added complication-the killer isn't done, and Caitlin could be the next target. Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, light bondage, graphic language, violence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read! 29 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wow!! These books just keep getting better! Another great read! There is a serial killer and so FBI Caitlin is brought in to help the local sheriff's dept solve the murders. She and the no2 in the dept (Tick) have a past ~ an affair that she ended with no real explanation. They have to try to work together to find a murderer but things get more difficult when it looks like he (the murderer) may actually be one of the newly appointed, "honest" deputies! A book with passion, violence, action, tears, murders, attacks (including one on a pregnant woman), intrigue and suspense. Another great read and again, as soon as I finished it, I purchased the next one in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on to Me- A Joyfully Recommended Title 25 Mar 2009
By M. Nix - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Lamar "Tick" Calvert has made it his personal mission to clean up his hometown sheriff's department. He hopes burying himself in work will keep his mind off his ex lover. He fails miserably when Caitlin is assigned to help him solve a group of murders. Now he just needs to know why she pushed him away.

Caitlin Falconetti is an FBI profiler. After surviving a brutal attack she pushes away the only man to hold her heart. Her work is the only thing keeping her sane when she is forced to work with Tick again.

Will this string of murders bring these two lovers together again? Can they find the killer before its too late?

Hold On to Me has it all; action, suspense, romance, sex, heartache and hope. Tick is such a stand up guy with a few faults, just how I like my men. He is a southern boy down to his toes. Caitlin is a strong independent woman who really knows how to take care of herself. When her world falls apart she turns into herself and sometimes she is too strong willed. I think that and not communicating brings the problems Tick and Caitlin have with each other. If they would just talk!

Linda Winfree has a way of writing everyday life with her southern twist that you fall in love with all her characters. I love that she brings them back again and again in this series. I also love the fact that Ms. Winfree is one of the few authors who can make her characters deal with consequences and make me still love her stories. Hold On to Me is no different. This book is full of angst, but it goes down well with the spoon full of sugar Ms. Winfree gives us with the dreamy Tick and the bold Caitlin.

I am Joyfully Recommending Hold On to Me for making me cry and LIKING it. Hold On to Me had me crying both happy and sad tears and when a book does that, I know it's a keeper.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stupid actions, contrivances, and a convenient tell all at the end. A struggle to read. 29 Jun 2012
By Jane - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
FBI profiler Caitlin and local cop Tick are investigating murders. These two characters are the rubber stamp characters used in the majority of romantic suspense novels. There was nothing special or different about them. There are two plots: (1) the relationship between Caitlin and Tick and (2) the search for a serial killer.

(1) They were in love. Caitlin was attacked and injured. She thinks Tick won't want her, so she breaks up with him. She won't tell him why. This book begins a year later when they are assigned to work together. They still love each other, but she continues to keep her secret and makes him think she doesn't love him. Later in the book she changes her mind and tells him. Her secret and denying her feelings were not interesting. Her actions did not fit her motivations.

CAUTION SORT-OF SPOILER (I don't tell who did it):
(2) The cops believe a cop is the killer. So why are all the cops still working on the case - handling evidence and interviewing witnesses? One of the investigators loses her cell phone. Why doesn't she get a replacement phone? Twice someone learns something. In the first case the person should have written it down and left messages about the discovery. But she didn't. Instead she traveled to tell someone and something bad happened while driving. In the second case someone learns who the killer is. Why didn't she call other cops and say be on the lookout for X? She doesn't call anyone. Instead she drives to tell someone. Of course something bad happens. And worst of all, the killer kept souvenirs and a journal explaining who he killed and how. So there's a convenient tell all at the end with no interesting discovery process.
