A moving and inspirational true story of a mother's battle to save her son and a tribute to the strength of the human spirit

Book Description

Glenys Carl's life changed for ever with one phone call saying that her son Scott, who was halfway round the world in Australia, had suffered a traumatic head injury and was not expected to live. It was the start of a remarkable journey for Glenys - and for Scott, who survived with his personality intact but could only move one arm. In this inspirational book Glenys describes her fight to rehabilitate Scott after the doctors advised that no more could be done to help his mobility and he should be put in a home. Glenys was determined she would look after Scott herself and teach him to walk again. Alone in Sydney, she put leaflets out asking for help. Complete strangers turned up at her door, a flood of volunteers, all giving their time to Scott, inspired by his unquenchable spirit. When they moved to London the same thing happened as volunteers helped with Scott's therapy until he was able to take his first difficult steps. Along the way Glenys learned to trust her instincts as a mother, to treasure each moment with her son and to accept her situation without bitterness, even when tragedy struck again. Scott's courage and his mother's determination to give him the best possible life imbue the book with a powerful message of hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold my Hand by Glenys Carl, 13 July 2005

What an extraordinary story of love, compassion and integrity, I sat next to this lovely lady a few weeks ago on a flight from Nice, before she even spoke to me I knew she was a special person, she had an aura about her, I wanted to know her better, we talked about so many things, and eventually she mentioned her book, I was desparate for a copy I read it in 2 days, nothing else was done at home until I finished it. It was a book that made you glad to be a human being, just to be able to experience all the emotions that you feel by reading it!!! I think this book should be part of the curriculum it may shape of the generations to come into better people!!! Well Done Glennie for telling your brave and love filled story. Pam XXX

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - A book to make you treasure every moment, 25 Feb 2006

"Glenys Carl's life changed for ever with one phone call in the middle of the night - the call every parent dreads. It was a doctor telling her that her son Scott has suffered a traumatic head injury and was in a coma"

This book is amazing, you will be willing Scott on and it feels you are there living the moment with Glenys through her and Scotts journey. There are moments of pure happiness that you are laughing out loud and moments that I had to put the book down due to crying that much. It is one of the best books I have ever read, and a book that makes you treasure what you have.

The book shows that one person 'Scott' has so much effect on other people's life and the struggle Glenys has to go through to try and get Scott professional assistance. If you only read one book this year please let it be this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Firm Grasp, 4 Jan 2006

I couldn't stop reading!!! The writing style is so descriptive, real and heartfelt without being sappy. Difficult to do with this kind of theme/topic with such a firm grasp of both event and emotion. When finally closing the book I felt like I knew these people, had shared just a bit of that journey and it's a strengthing trip. It would make a marvelous movie. I could picture the scenes so easily. I highly recommend this book.
