Excellent!

The Crookes have produced a truly beautiful set of songs yet again. The songs fit really well together and show a definite new added confidence in their own sound. If you liked any of the early stuff (Smiths, Housemartins, Echo and the Bunnymen, 60's throwback...even odd slight Libertines hints at times), you'll love this.

Music of this charm and quality should perhaps not be pigeon-holed other than as great catchy infectious melodies that just stick in your head. The Crookes are amazing.

I enjoyed all of the first half of the album (American Girls is a great track and obvious single track option as well as Afterglow), yet the 2nd half of the album has even more quality and real craft. There are many delightful songs on this album, with standout tracks Hold Fast, Sal Paradise and Sofie and Where did our love go? Only minor gripe is that the MP4 version has another track on that isn't on the CD..the B side of Afterglow 'Honey' is also available only as MP download..still, this cannot detract from a 5 star rating. The music is simply stunning and if you've never seen 'em live, you're missing a treat.I'd recommend this album (and all their early stuff too) unreservedly as I can't stop playing it since buying it.

Top work fellas. Yes, yes, you are magicians...I can't wait to see you perform live again on Saturday.

I was a bit worried that there might be a bad case of second album syndrome here but personally I think that it's better than the first album. Great effort

I went to Richard Hawley concert in Bristol this wednesday. The Crookes opened the concert and I was totally blown away with the energy, vocals and all-around playing ability of these artists. So much more real than most of the 'Brits' rubbish around and played on the radio currently. Mike Diver should not be taken seriously - there is nothing wrong in playing music that incorporates the Smiths, 50's Rock and Roll, Americana shades together with an individual take on life. Definitely a band moving in the right direction. By the way both The Crookes and Richard come from Sheffield and show that that city is producing music that is different and awe-inspiring. Check them out. Richard supports The Woodland Trust - please give them a look and realise that artists can have a heart and support real causes. I'm a fan of both for life.
