I didn't think that anything could be better that Woman of Substance, but I was wrong. I loved this, it was a beautiful story and the best thing was Stephen Collins!!!

when I ordered this dvd I realised it was old 1986 , I also ordered the fist part woman of substance which was deliteful to watch , on viewing this one hold the dream I was very disapointed with the copy , it was poor quality the sound in parts was bad and the picture froze a few times , I was going to return but the cost was too great and I was told they would not send another cpoy I would have to re order , so all in all very upset !!!

I have been an avid fan of Barbara Taylor Bradford for years and once in a while I revisit the collection of her best seller books and movies. Revisiting the mini-series, `Woman of Substance', `Hold the dream' and `To be the best `recently brought to mind why this woman captured our hearts and imagination with her books which were beautifully brought to life by some of Hollywood's finest. When a good and captivating book is turned into a movie, several factors play a part in how the finished product will be received, most notably the actors and actresses that bring it to life. I enjoyed watching the trilogy again, but my favourite remains Hold the dream largely because of Stephen Collins and Jenny Seagrove playing Shane and Paula respectively. Had they been cast in 'To be the best' I probably would have loved it as much.
There is something about 'Hold the Dream' in terms of the events in the book, and the acting that makes it stand out from the rest. The whole story is about survival, and rising above adversity, while 'Woman of Substance' was a flashback of what had been, 'Hold the dream' was the present, it is sometimes easier to build than to maintain, and I think this may have contributed to why I found myself rooting for Paula, Shane, Blackie and Emma. It is always a heart-warming and inspiring experience to revisit this series. The DVD does not have any special features. You can't go wrong with this series, I reccommend.
