One of the best and most riveting drama series I have ever seen. Watched all 458 minutes (approx) in 2 nights. I just had to carry on - I was hooked. The cast were excellent, their acting top notch. The story lines are very well written, and you feel as if you are actually there. I love The Bill, but this takes top spot. Come on BBC, roll on some more series - I'll be the first to watch and buy the DVD's and books, (if any get published). In a nutshell - BRILLIANT! Not to be missed!

The Bill - The Complete First Series [1984]I loved this series, haven't seen the second yet. It has the advantage of a smaller cast than the bill. There are two lead characters played superbly by Cal Macaninch and Richard Harrington, who was in an episode of the bill in the mid-nineties, the one about a gay bar murder also starring Adam Crouch. Anyway they are so good as partners I am looking forward to season 2. The casting is great throughout the series, and plenty of suspense. I found it more adult than the bill, the last series here was youth orientated. I found all three leading actresses attractive to! well cast indeed!!

as the price was really low (at around £5) when I purchased it from Amazon, and that's usually a good indicator that it's either rubbish and they need to shift some copies or it's old and tired - and they need to shift some copies... but surprisingly it turned out to be decent entertainment with a good lead cast and good storylines - especially the series-long fight against crime boss Neculai Stenga. There are a few things that annoyed me: - the constant talk about budget cuts and changes in the police (more paperwork, less local knowledge, the priority of fighting terrorism over other crimes etc.). We got it first time round, thank you very much! Of course it doesn't help that by now there has been years of debate about it in the media, so it's not as interesting any longer as it was back in 2008 when the series was made.(I'm certainly not saying it's not relevant, but it's a bit over the top) - some of the characters are near carricatures e.g. the skirt-chasing PC Clifton, predatory and conniving Rachel from the CPS and naive, but golden-hearted PC Lucy Slater, but even they (well, not Rachel Barker) grow on you over the series. I understand there is a series 2, but I'm not sure whether it's on DVD yet - or ever will be? There is an option for English for the Hard of Hearing but otherwise no extras on the DVD. Worth a try
